Odd motor swap help
Wednesday, July 01, 2009 5:01 PM
I recently purchased a totaled 1999 cavalier 2.2L off my nephew. My father had put a brand new motor in it less than 1000 miles ago. I am looking at a 1996 cavalier 2.4l with a blown head gasket and seized motor. Will I need to tranferre the ECU into the 1996? I also want to keep the 1999 trans, is that possible. I am doing all the work in a driveway in a couple of days so fabrication and complicated senarios are not possible. I am going tommorrow to look at the 1996 again and purchase. A quick answer would be helpful. Thank you very much for your time.

the trannys will also not match up 2.2 and 2.4 bell housings are diffrent. but as long as there both auto or both manual the 2.2 drive train should bolt right in i belive. i know for sure for manual but unsure on tranny mounts.
