3400, megasquirt, m62

just wanted to give you all an up date on my project, in December I swapped in a 3400 in my 96 cavalier using a Megasquirt(thanks for you ms guys that sent me a starting tune) was going to turbo it using the GT3767ts that I have from my buddies 600hp Honda, but I don't have the money to buy the waistgate, innercooler and other expensive crap to finish it.....so I cut the lid off of a 3500 plenum( I know, i know don't hate me) and fabbed a plate that a 94 Bonniville supercharger (m62 i think) bolts up to and also made an idler that rides above the powersteering to hold tension on the blower............the only bad thing that I wish I could remidy is that the blower is gonna stick out the hood( but hay it worked for the muscle car guys..lol). I have tempates for every piece that I have made, should be running in about 1-2 weeks( in switching to e85 first) ............not shure how to up load pics anyone know how??????

nice bro, i NEED to megasquirt my 3100 because the grandam pcm just doesn't run right.

That M62 is probably not going to keep up with the 3400 well enough. That's why the 3800 was switched to the M90 in 96.

Darkroom1428 did exactly what you did, but with an M90, a few years ago in a Sunfire. It's pretty crazy looking with that thing sticking up out of the hood. Here are is a picture:

I couldn't find one with the hood on, but you can see it's way up there.

Best would be to use a t-bird M90 and remote mount it somewhere. Where to mount it is the hard part.

Turbo pretty much sounds like king.

yah I'm worried about the boost not being enough cuz the Bonniville has a 8" crank puly and my 3400 has a 6"..... does any body know if the front drive off of a m62 will bolt up on a newer m90????? I'm trying to find a core, because this blower has a very small puly compaired to the factory newer ones like the GTP's... but either way it might tide me over untiIl I get the scratch for the turbo parts. I did some measuring and I think I can squezze the gt37 behind the engine (above the pasenger side axle) so Im going to start making headers once this contraption is on and making noise. then well durability test the factory head gaskets....LOL

What about getting a modular pulley set-up for the M90? Then you wan swap pulleys instead of snouts.

yah im thinkn I need a m90,, does any one know if the front bolts on the same? the newer ones have to long of a drive nose on them for the intake that I made. I just finnishedd welding the plenum together man 3/8 plate aluminum takes a lot of heat to weld. uhhh! but its done. now I jsut need to figure out if the m90 will swap snouts? anybody have any gtp friends. LOL.................................ps the bagged cav looks sick!

I'm pretty sure the snouts are not interchangeable, because the M90 is a taller unit. However, I don't have an M62 anymore to compare to, so I'm not 100% sure.

There were mechanical drawings available on Eaton's website at one time, but I don't know if they are still up there.

M90 = 90ci of air in 1 rotation
3400 = 207ci of air every 2 rotations
207 / 2 = 103.5 per rotation

Stock GTP pulley I belive is 3.8". With a 6" crank pulley that's a 1.57 ratio.

90 * 1.57 = 141.3ci per rotation.

141.3 / 103.5 = 1.365

14.7 * 1.365 = 20.0655

20.0655 - 14.7 = 5.3655 psi of boost on an M90 with stock 3400 crank and stock GTP s/c pulley.

Not a lot, but a decent amount to start out with to get yourself tuned on.

I wonder how a 3400 would take an M112.

I'm also actually curious if anyone has upgraded a 3800 from the 90 to the 112. It would obviously take some fab, but it wouldn't be doo bad of a project.

zz performance makes a plate to do it i looked into it but for the cost of everything i could turbo my car

Eaton has some smaller profile chargers now, the R series, and they are supposed to be both smaller and more heat dissipating than the M series than comparable displacement ones. Makes my mind start working again. I wonder if it would be possible to squeeze a pair of smaller ones over the valve covers with a cross runner setup going to the LIM. It would take relocating the alternator and ignition coils, but I'm now curious if an effective setup could be built in that manner. Not that I've got the dough to blow on two new chargers. LOL. I just get these brainstorms and like to figure out if it's feasible.

Probably not well. A 2-1 ratio for a 112ci blower on that 3400 would likely be over 15psi. That's sure to blow the head gaskets at least, if not other parts and pieces of things.

That can easily be dealt with, though. If you're building a boost motor with something of that displacement, I'm sure you're not leaving the internals alone. I'm betting a 3500 head swap would be almost a necessity, for both the lower compression and the higher flow.

I'm sure there's no way in hell to get a 112 under the hood, though.
