Hey guys, the metal pipe in the front with the bleeder is rotted. I am going to go to Home Depot tomrorow morning and make something with a rubber hose. Is that the only bleeder this car has for the coolant system/?? \\thanks!

yes theres only 1 just go to GM and buy a new one there not that expensive and that way it doesn't look like your butchering your car. PS the reason its metal its cause its fastened to the exhause manifold if you go to home depot and get rubber it will melt

I must be blind. I dont see anything on the housing that would let me bleed the system. I dont even know how to do it either. I heard you let the car get hot, shut if off and then loosen bleeders until you see coolant starting to come out??

dont open when its hot you'll burn yourself. Start it open it up, close it when theres a good stream of coolant coming out. You might have to do it a few times to get all the air out.

For the love of god! What the hell! I found the second bleeder. I loosened both and start engine. after engine got hot steam would come out of the bleeder below the intake, little coolant flow out of the second bleeder. 20 min later same thing!! steam and more steam! no coolant coming out of the bleeder below intake hose! jsut steam! The pass side rad hose is cold, driver side is hot. New thermostat and water pump. Am I not bleeding it correctly?? I even would close bleeders, let motor get hot, loosen bleeders. Steam would keep coming out, no coolant! Please help!

wat is that part called?

you only need to loosen one bleeder. make sure you keep the filling up your tank.

I did, no good. the driver side hose thumps, steam comes out of the bleeder on the water outlet and the car temp gauge almost hits the red line. running out of ideas. the water in the tank goes down a little, comes up, goes down.

check your oil... you mite actually have a crack in the head where your valves are. i had that issue on my 96 cav.

oil looks fantastic, so does coolant, no smoke in back of car

are you losing coolant? my car didnt have coolant in the oil when it had the issue. reason for that was because the cracks allowed it to seep into the combustion chambers. basically burning up.

2.2's commonly leak into the combustion chamber and you actually burn it up. Sounds like a cracked head/ head gasket issue.

Actually I had this very problem when I did mone a few years ago. I had a 96 2.2. What happened was I had a huge air pocket in my radiator. When if finally burped it shook the whole car. Holy @!#$ it was annoying i had to screw around with it all day. Keep bleeding and after a time if that doesn't help drain it again and run water through the radiator to make sure there is no air stuck in it.

I accidentally the SHIFT LIGHT!!!!!!!!!!

The proper way of using the word seen. It is not I seen it that would be I saw it. He has seen the car is the right way to use the word. English class is Cool. By the way thats my sig

well guys, I did some re-engineering. I relocated thermostat to the driverside part of the engine in the water outlet. After 5 minutes I have no more air, engine doesnt run hot and I have beautiful heat. It seems that I damaged the head gasket when it got to hot last time though, I see some seepage on the front right corner of the head. Live and Learn. I am ordering a headgasket KIT and Bolts. I have 2 questions for you guys.

1-) do any of the headbolts go into waterjackets??? if not I will put moly on the threads instead of permatex.

2-) what is the correct position of the water temp needle when motor is hot??? Mine is halfway. is that right?

thanks!
Ralph

I'm confused on the headbolt question? Why would they go into the water jacket? They go into the block im almost 100% sure. I have a 91 2.2 and it normally runs half way which my gauge reads as between 180-200 deg. Idk why the older cavys got easier to read gauges instead of idiot lights ect.. Like mine actually has oil pressure that reads in pounds, temp gauge in degrees. The head gasket is pretty easy, but make sure to take it somewhere and have it checked for warpage

I will andrew. Some cars head bolts go into a coolant passage so you need to seal the threads or coolant will leak at the headbolt. So I wanted to find if I needed to put sealant on any of threads. If I dont I will just lube the threads and bottom of the headbolts for accurate torquing. I am going to install a aftermarket oil pressure and water temp gauge tastefully. I hate these useless gauges!!!
