Can you tell from the outside if the engine is HO? Does the IDI cover say it or something?
Ive found a 2.3 from an 88 Grand Am minus the car. Just curious if its an HO or LO?
Nevermind. Found out after I asked.
Could I run a 2.3 LO off of an LD9 PCM?

A high output Quad 4 will have a red valve cover. the regular Quads have a silver valve cover.
I always liked the Quad 4. I had two cars with that engine. a 1989 Olds Cutlass Calais and a 1995 Pontiac Grand am. had both of them when I was in High School. I blew the headgasket on the 89, while I was racing a Beretta GT. But I got lucky and it was still covered under the powertrain warranty. I always wanted to take a high output Quad and put it in a Geo Metro. would that have worked?
There is a guy on the quad 4 forums with a ho in a metro. I belive he completely rewired the car and had to have custom axles made.

I don't recall anybody having a metro but malichi has a geo storm with a ms and ho quad in his 5spd car.
As for Ho/lo/w41 cars
The Ho's were black with cast aluminum fins
Lo's and SOHC quads mostly came with a all cast aluminum cover not painted at all
W41's Came Red with cast aluminum fins stock
yea thats the one im thinking of the geo storm.
