What exhaust sounds best on the 3400 cavs? I am looking someyhing with a low rumble like a V8 muscle car. Any suggestions
Im not too sure... but you can Try creepin over on grand am owners forum... other than a few clips ive heard from a friend i have no clue how they sound but i know with the right muffler(s) it will sound mean just from hearing a few pulls from my friends grand am on stock exhaust
here you go. I have quite a few video on my youtube. Dodgeviper12003
Here is it tuned
If you go to 1 min you can here my car at idle
This was before I tuned it.
On the inside my car looks like a fighter jet.
Rob that exhaust sounded sweet as can be @ idle. That's the sound I'm looking for.
Well then your in luck. It's straight pipes in that video. Stock 3400 manifolds to a 2.5in exhaust that Ys to 12in x 3in tips. No mufflers. My new setup will be with custom headers to my turbo and full 3in mandrel bent exhaust. I am making it all myself.

Just a little head up, put a high torque starter in it so it sound cool when you start it like I did.

The bad thing is is that I have to have mufflers to pass inspection in my area
So am I, no one cares as long as it sounds good and exits the back of the vehicle.

I would personally go with a something like a Dynomax Super Turbo and a resonator on 2.5" piping if you're running a stock to mild 3400. Straight pipes sound pretty badass, but after a while, an exhaust that loud gets annoying to drive around with all the time. A turbo muffler and a resonator will mellow it out enough without completely taking away the engine tone.
Best 3400 swap I've ever heard in person had a Walker QuietFlow muffler on it. Bone stock at idle and a beautiful roar when you lay into it nicely.
You'd never see it coming.

Slowly but surely may some day win this race...
Thanks for the suggestion guys I will keep these in mind
For my 3400 Sunfire we are planing to use the stock grand am down pipe, run into a hi flow 2.5" cat and connect it to a Magnaflow 2.5" 3.4L Camaro Exhaust with 3" dual outlet's without a resonator at least that's the plan I'll post more when we got more figured out and will also post some videos once its installed. I used to have a 93 V6 Camaro and if this setup sounds anything like that car I'll be one happy man.
If GM only knew how great a 3400 powered Sunfire is...
Here is my 3400 Cav Exaust
2.5" Front to back With a High Flow Cat, V6 Camaro Transvers Muffler, and SS Tips
And just for @!#$s and giggles No Muffler just the Cat
That first clip sounded good Sunfireman
My 3400 just after the exhaust was installed
