Looks like the engine in my '02 Cavalier is toast. I'm looking for a replacement.
I have the 2200 sfi 2.2, not the ecotec engine. What years are a direct drop in? I don't wanna mess with putting an ecotec in, I don't wanna do any conversion work. unfortunately for me the ecotec is easier to find.
Any help guys? Thanks.
Buying a different car is outta the question. While the car was my sisters, it holds a lot of sentimental value. The car was around and used when something major happened in my family.
And I was asking about the years of the 2.2 (2200, non ecotec), will any 2.2 from 1995-2002 work? All the same engine, right?
Looks like I need something from 98-02.
Reason for not "just buying another car"....something terrible happened in my family. Something that'll haunt us forever. The Cavalier wasn't directly involved but, its a.....reminder of sorts. The car will never leave the family.....the engine maybe have crapped out, but she'll be drive again. I'll just leave it at that.
Swapping in an Ecotec isn't much extra work at all. Easy weekend project
Help me with these few questions.
Assuming I buy an engine (with accessories included) with the auto transmission attached, the computer and wiring included.
Only engine swap I've ever done was with a 76 f150. I replaced a blown 390 with another running 390. So i have a little experience, however I'm used to old carbureted engines. ....my questions are:
1. Are engine mounts the same as my stock one?
2. Is the wiring harness and computer plug and play? (any custom wiring?)
3. Will the ecotec work easy with the existing radiator?
4. I'm assuming I'll need new exhaust? I doubt I'll just attach my exhaust manifold to the piping where the old one was.
Any other issues I may come across?
Again, be gentle. I'm used to old school trucks. Small, compact, front wheel drive cars are a whole new ball game for me.
