I picked up a 2003 cavalier with engine knocking. What engines can I swap? Junkyard says 2002-2006. However I did notice on my car the engine has marking "06 cobalt" in pain pen. Seems to me either head or engine is from a cobalt? There are number of 07/08 saturn, ect in yard, what can I use. I don't mind having to swap out parts.
The Cobalt motor's cant be used and I think the same is for the early Saturn Eco's. The reluctor wheel on the crank is wrong. 02-05 Eco Cavaliers and Sunfires, Olds Aleros and Grand Am GT's I think are all the donors you can use.
So this must have head from cobalt then. Good to know
Can you switch out reluctor wheel? Is it simple as swapping crank pulley?

No you can not, they're internal, and mount differently.

Reviving this thread.
How can one find out for sure. I have a 2003 that needs a fair bit of work and I was hoping to just swap out the tired 2.2 eco with something newer instead of rebuilding it.
