my stereo is getting redone already... couple questions.
1) with about 2500 - 2700 watts RMS... am I good with just just a yellow top or do I need a second battery, if so do the 2 batteries have to be the same? or do I need a high output alturnater?
2) I have type R 6.5 inch compnets int he front doors, another set will be added to the front, do I need to stick with the same 6.5 inch size or can I dop down to say a 5 1/4 inch component set... and one last thing where should I put the sedcond set in front? doors, kick panels (car is a 5 speed 3rd gen wso might be an issue) ect..
thanks in advance
what are you running to get 2500-2700 watts??
that's 180 amps of current draw at 13.8v !

rear seats are going away with a box holding 4 Type R 12's in its place, 4 subs 2 amps, Alpine 1000 watt RMS (underrated acording to birthsheet) and then 2 sets of type R components in the front powered by alpine ampe for interiors
sounds like you SHOULD probably go with a bigger alt. just to be safe, or you'll probably have electronics issues
Ok I'm going with 2 sets of 6.5 inch Type R components, I already have one set that sized installed and the second set of speakersare gonna be in the doors as well, so I'll just stick to the 6.5's since its gotta be custom mounted anyway.
still hoping for a more definate answer about the alturnator or not... slaos where could I buy one? local stearo place sells "180 amp GM small case" alturnators for $800!!!!
dominick@tds.net email him and he'll hook you up.
BTW do two yellow tops too. you'll appreciate it.
2 yellow tops as in one under the hood and a 2nd one or as in stock uner the hood and add 2?
i highly doubt you will get more then 1,000 a piece from those amps.
but get a second battery first, upgrade your wiring, then measure your current draw and see if you need an alt.

you knwo every time I post something in audio and electronics your the only person who has to throw in little negative comments. Either help out by answering the questions or don't. and by the way the birthsheet of one I already have is 1,14X watts (forgot the last number)
one under hjood and one in the back .When I had two 1000bds in my car and stock alt I had lights dimming and voltage drop. So chances are you will too. And those I know birthsheeted at about 1200 watts a piece. just out of curiousity what do the alpine amps birthsheet at?
Thank you and post above you has the answer

im not being negative..just telling you. just because the paper from the lab says a number, does not mean that's what it'll put out, but rather what it's ABLE to put out.
I run an orion 2500D...i dont' get anywhere near 2500 watts out of it.
either way i answered your question. so quit whining

I'm not whining, your the only person in the Audio and Electronics forum with this I know everythign I'm better then you attitude and it gets old.
he is right your get 700-800 watts max unless you have the amps wired to 1/4 ohm so they will see 1 ohm after box rise and no less then 14.4 volts. so yea you will never get 114x watts.
but you should be fine with upgraded wires under the hood and 2 yellow tops, i had a viper 2500D (2500 watts at 2 ohms) wired to 1.4 ohms with a red top and a yellow and my lights never dimmed. now i have 2 dei 1500D's straped at .7 ohms with 180 amp alternator and still no problem.

if you say so....all i said was you won't get the power that the paper says. if that's an attitude then i guess i have it....get over it.
