Ok, so here's my situtation:
I have a Sony 1200W amplifier (XM-2200GTX) that is powering 2 Audiobahn AW1215T subwoofers (400W rms, 800W max, 4ohms)
Unfortunately, I cannot bridge these two subs because the amplifier, when bridged, requires 4ohms minimum. So, guess what? Time for the 'ol subs to go!
I'm looking to really get the most ouf of this amplifier by getting a 1200W, single subwoofer. However, I'll be damned if I can't find one that'll bridge in 4 ohms!
This is the part where you suggest some possible options. I'd like to stay under the 250 price range, as 250 bucks for one single sub is A LOT... For me anyway. I have already looked at the Kicker SoloBaric series, and they were what I was looking for power wise, but they are dual 4 ohms, which would end up just bridging down to 2 ohms. :-(
Help..?
why not get a real amp and throw away that POS that you call an amp?
That amp is only 500W x 1 RMS into 4 ohms.
As long as your subs are still in OK shape, I have to agree with everyone else and recommend replacing that sony amp. I'm not saying that because I hate sony products (although I do), but it will likely cost you alot less money finding a decent subwoofer amp than trying to get a "cheap" subwoofer that can handle more than 800wrms.
If your subs are on their last breaths, try and find a decent 4-ohm (or dual 2-ohm) subwoofer. If the subs are fine, throw your sony on ebay and try and find a cheap class-d subwoofer amp. I know for a fact that Orion, Directed, Viper, MTX etc all have really cheap, reliable subwoofer amps online.
The 50-50-90 rule: Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.
Sony sucks....................................go with Directed Audio
