okkkk...il let u know my set up first... i have a brand new optima red-top battery, a 3 month old alternator, and a 3 month old serpentine belt from goodyear, my system consists of 2 rockford fosgate 12" subs 800 watts peak each.. and a 760 watt sony xplod amp

on to my problem...,, my car whistles!! when the rpms get up theres a loud kinda annoying whistle noise comin from the alternator, and as the car gets warmed up it starts all the time even when its stayin at 1000 rms... sooooo i searched some topics and some simialr problems to mine the responses were...

1. reground the amp
2. reground the headunit to a comon ground
3. get them rca ground noise things...
4. take off the neg. batery terminal clean it.. losen the alternator and tighten it
5. buddy of mine told me maybe the belt was too tight, but theres no way to loosin it up

ok well.... can it be the system??... i mean even if i turn the amp completely off it still does this... i clean the neg. battery termimal... the battery is still unnin 14.1 when the car is turned on so thats goood im not sure what the problem is could it be the belt is on there too tight or somethign is tight on the alternator... any help would be appreciated the whistle is getting soooo annoying thanx

now you have turbo lol just kidding, disconnect power wire at battery completey (Make sure you do this first) so the amp has no power at all, if you still get the whistle might be altenator, you could have a bad one, my wifes protege 5 has that whistle noise and its the altenator i told her to deal with it , lol other then that sorry cant help.
P.S. wouldnt hurt to scrap the sony amp in the process

If it seems like it's coming from the engine, and does get louder as the RPM's get higher, you might want to check your idler pulley, as well.

If you take the serp. belt off (or just release the pressure on it, that idler pulley should spin freely and smoothly. If it's "choppy" or catches, that's your problem. Had this issue with my car a year or more back. Same symptoms and was HARD to diagnose. Good luck with it, though!
