Will this amp make a difference?
Saturday, January 21, 2006 12:19 PM
My buddy gave me a 250w x 4 Kenwood amp the other day. I want to put it in, but Im wondering, after its installed, do the amps from the deck still power the speakers as well? And if not, will the 250 watts split 4 ways be enough to even notice a difference? Thanks

when you put an amp in, you wire the speakers to the amp, the deck doesnt power the speakers anymore...and 250 x 4 is alot more than 50x4 or 60x4 or whatever ur deck is so yes u will notice a pretty big difference cuz thats like...a lot more power

you want to bump, then they will bump and hit real hard and a lot good.

So it will be 250 to each speaker? I thought the 250 was split to each speaker.

whats the modle # for the amp? i don't think kenwood has an amp that is 250x4.

also if your headunit is 50x4 thats max and its really around 17x4 (if that), i say hook the amp up it will sound alot better the highs will be better and your have 2-3 times the power.

Thanks for the info guys-

sweetnloud, your right, its 200x4. Hadnt looked at it in a while. The model number is KAC-943. It lists the 200x4 as its max power. Still a good install?

that amp is about 6 years old i think it was one of my first amps. its 50x4 and it will power the mid's fine (and sound good) just run 2 sets of rca's back and set the cross over's and your be set.

would it be a better investment for sound qualitys sake just to find a new, higher output amp? i want to hurt my ears, and i dont want to get this one in and not have it to my liking

My amp is a 50x4, and it's very good sound quality and volume, even with the gains all the way down. If you do install that one, and later decide for a different one, it wouldn't be much of a hassle to swap them out, all the wiring would be the same.
