Remote Start and LEDs
Tuesday, January 24, 2006 8:30 PM
I just ordered from the underbody LED GP, and I was wondering if this idea is possible and if anyone has done it........
What I was thinking about is somehow hooking up the LED's to the remote start so instead of the parking lights flashing when you lock the doors, the LED's will flash instead. Also, when the car is started by the remote hanving the LED's on instead of the parking lights. Is it just a matter of wiring into the LED's instead of the Parking lights, or is it much more difficult than that?? If it makes a difference, it is a Compu Star Auto Start. Thanks to anyone who can help

I've done something similiar... although I have it wired up to the dome light instead of the headlights flashing. If you think about it... if the headlights are on, the LED's are on.

I simply tapped into the domelight negative, wired it to a relay, and viola. Underbodies + interior cathodes turn on when I press UNLOCK on the keypad, and shut off when I press LOCK. They all work the same as the factory domelight

Hey Corsica Dude, have any installation help or suggestions to what you have done?

Its a good idea I have thought about it before. Like if you lock and unlock your doors your under body light kit will flash instead of your turn signals. Im sure it can be done if wired right.

Yep. Usually the parking light output is low current (around 500 milliamps), which should be enough to turn on the LEDs, but you could always use a relay just to be safe. The alarm will tell you if it is a positive or negative output to the parking lights, and usually you can change it too.

on my remote start, there was a wire coming from the brain that was a positive output which could be hooked to either the parking lights or headlights. sooo, i'm guessing that if you ran that wire to the positive side of your underbody wiring, it would work the same way

Thanks, i'll hafta look into that. The LED's are on the way, and im getting the remote start this weekend. That would work perfect if is attached right to the brain, I didnt wanna deal with having to splice a wire from the parking lights or anything like that.

I see that a few of you have wired up your LEDs to the light blinker from the remote start, have you been able to turn them on and off when you want too? Is there a switch you can use somewhere that would over run the Remote start signal? and if so how do you keep it from back feeding the remote start?
Thanks

Update for anyone wondering ..........
Went and got the remote start installed, and the guy that installed it said that most higher end starters have an auxiliary output that you can wire in anything you want. I think it is a negative connection with a relay that will allow the underbody lights to flash on when the car is started or the alarm goes off. Probably wait to actually install the LED's until spring, don't know whether or not risking it during the winter.
