I am about to buy a reciever for my home theater system, and was wondering if it is possible to hook up an extra set of car speakers to it. The reciever uses 8 ohms, but the speakers are 4. Would I have any problems with it? If so, is there a way to convert it?
It's a 5.1 stereo system with the front two speakers running on 8 ohms, and the back two possibly being the car speakers.

It's just temporary until i can afford a nice set.
I've seen plenty of people do this...well...mostly with subswoofers though.
A nicely build and really low tuned ported box goes nice with a good home theatre system.
but how do u give the amp power?
or do u hook it to a powered out on the receiver?
I did a 12 inch woofer and a 6 1/2 inch components for home stereo, they sounded mint.

Hmm... interesting idea... I've got a couple extra 6.5's laying around...
How would one hook those up for in-home use? No reciever involved, so it'd need a power/amplification source, as well as getting the speaker wire converted to a RCA or headphone input.
The stock speakers from my cav are 10 ohms, would I have any problems when hooking them up to an 8 ohm reciever?
If I recall properly the power needed for car speakers is a much higher wattage than a home audio system.
The sub on my home theatre system is plugged into the wall for amplification power. it only gets the audio signal from the reciever, while the other speakers are powered directly off the reciever.
