Ziper Car Alarm Problems....

well i bought this alarm about a year ago now, and had best buy install it. othersize i lost the warrenty. well now every time i call up there, they are busy, and i am told to call back in a few days. which is bull@!#$, they pushed @!#$ back to get the install done, and dont want to touch it now. well i figure i will ask here, and see what i can find out. well whats goin on, is the car was sitting for awhile with the battery unhooked. i think that the alarm got reset or somthing, the alarm doesnt chirp anymore when you unlock/lock the doors, and i am affraid that other settings were lost as well. i was reading the manual, and i can either use the vallet button, or get them to use a computer to reinstall the software on the alarm. well the problem i am running into, is i am pretty sure they didnt install the vallet button.... i was never told of one, and from me looking i cant find one. any help would be greatly appreashiated. also has anyone hooked up the module for the windows to both roll down with the remote? i am thinking of doing this, and say @!#$ the warrenty on the alarm since i cant get the dam car in anyways. thanks

Yep, unhooking the power to the alarm will cause it to lose all the settings that were programed into it. Most places don't have the computer programmer and just use the valet switch to program the alarms. Most of the time, the installer will use the valet switch to program the unit and then unplug it from the brain and throw it away because most people don't use the valet button and don't want a hole drilled in the dash for it. The windor rollup/down module's aren't too bad, but if you don't know what you're doing it's a lot easier to have someone do it for you, as long as you have unused auxilary channels on the alarm it'll work fine.

I was told that Best Buy has a "blackout" period during January where they don't work on alarms or remote starts, so that may be why they don't seem to want to work on your car, but I'm not sure. If they won't do it, I guess I would find somewhere else

I just installed an RS / Alarm on my cavi and it wasn't too hard. One website that was a big help is www.the12volt.com. Check the car security forum, you might find another suggestion for your problem.

Hope this helps.

i took her back today, and talked to the manager and finally got somone to look at it. well they redid the alarm and left the button in the car. so now i can do that my self, and since its in there i am tempted to try to hook up the autostart. but i want to hook up a neutral switch first, just as a precaution. anyone seen anything like this before? any info would be great. thanks
