New amp installed...major distortion and whining
Sunday, January 29, 2006 9:56 PM
So for those who remember my latest thread, I just had a Kenwood 4 channel (actually 2 channel cuz 2 are not working) 200x4 installed in my car. Now, I told the guy to use one channel for the rears and 1 for the front, he said that might not work. Instead, he said he would just amp the front speakers. I was a little hesitat but he said it would be fine.

Fast forward. I get the car back and fire it up. I hear a little pop from the speakers and then this kind of ringing/whining noise from the fronts. It doesnt do it when the cd player is off, only when it playing music. And when I give the car gas, the whining gets higher pitched.

On top of that, the front speakers are way distorted. A lot louder, but the quality just isnt there.

Im pretty pissed, and taking it back tommorrow. Any suggestions on wwhat to do? Like, is it a connection problem, or is it just a bad idea to wire only the fronts? Or should I just scrap the amp, and see if I cant get my hands on another one?

Thanks for any help

Alternator whine

Also sounds like you need to readjust your gain on the amp and bass boost on the HU.

what you hae is a alternator whine it comes from a bad ground or cheep rca cables ran next to your power wire. it should work fine i have 3 of my 4ch's on my amp not workin it kinda suck's since my mid's can't keep up with my sub. but if 2 of them are not workin then it's olny time before the other 2 go.

Check the resistance at the ground points of the head unit and the amp, they should both be under 200miliohms to the negative battery terminal. If so, the amp filters the power supply and maybe that part of the amp isn't working right but the amplification circuit is.
