Does the shape of the box matter at all? Or is it just so the interior volume is right to what the sub needs?
I ask because I want to do something "different" in my trunk.

Shape and size does matter.
sorry for thread jake but this is like exatly what im looking for... if i were to go neck and neck with my 12" sub on a ported box veurses the sub in a corner box made out of fiberglass witch one would sound better?
depends on the design...if you make ur ported box like crap and the fiberglass ones really good, then the fiberglass is going to sound better, but on the other hand if you make your ported one really well and the fiberglass (im assuming sealed) ones on the trunk poorly the ported one will sound better, its all in the design, either could work

you want to bump, then they will bump and hit real hard and a lot good.
LOL
If both boxes were built properly, you'll get more db out of the ported box.
it depends on the strength of the glass, if it has flex in it, it will lose its impact, but if its built strong to last long (like a ford, my ass) then it'll treat you well. for sound quality though the odd shaped fibreglass would sound better if they were exactly the same(mdf vs. glass). the irregularities in the fibreglass diffuses the sound waves, splits them up, so that you dont get any standing waves. not a huge difference but it may help. go glass if you have the time to do it, it always looks cooler.
Well i kind of went both routes lol. I have a mdf box already with a port. I got sick of the ugly color and didn't want to just cover the ugly up and still be left with a shoebox. So i made some rings to go around the sub opening and the port opening(really not that think/high/rasied) and then i rounded it off and now i just got done doing my first coat of resin on the streatched cloth. Ill update as i go with out pictures tho ... digital camera acting up.
