Deck recommendations

I'm in the process of finding a new deck, its gotta play mp3's and have 3 pre outs. I've always been partial to pioneer but it doesn't matter. Also I'm looking to spend 2-300 cad, so whats everyone recommend?

I like pioneer too. I have a pioneer premier deck. You can't get these from WalMart. You actually need to find a Pioneer Premier dealer. They all have 3 9v preouts.

9 volt preouts huh? Must like to run modded amps since most amps cant handle over 8 volts of input voltage. Try 6.5 volt outputs. Don't go posting misinformation if you really don't know. And in case you are wondering where i got my information.

You're gonna get alot of different suggestions, all from those who are biased. If I were you I'd compare all the suggestions and decide for yourself.

I'll be the first to be biased. Go with Alpine, any alpine deck at all. Ever since I switched to them from Sony I've been incredibly impressed. My sony deck had HORRIBLE mp3 playback and overall just felt cheap. The Alpine head unit, however, plays mp3's flawlessly and has a good overall quality. I have the 9851 model, which I bought for 250ish usd. Motorized faceplate, ipod ready, loads of settings. If I were you, I'd consider this one.

In regards to what n8ball said, my deck is 4 years old and I have a 760mp model which did run 9v preouts but they dropped them back to 6.5 last 2 years ago. I did not mean to post "They all". Mine does and I have never had any problems with it. They have variable voltage range, 9v is the max they will push. You are somewhat right about the amps though. I can't run cheap amps with this deck. The best amps that I have found, are JL, Memphis, and Alpine. I have never had a problem with those. I have fried a couple of sony's and rockford's. So there is an explantion for what I said. There is no need to get all snappy all you are going to do is offend people. Thanks

They did huh?

Hmmmm
pioneer premier 760

Read the reviews. 2 Volts. I could care less if I come across as a dick and offend people. Im not the one spreading misinformation. BTW i guarantee the memphis wont take 9 volts unmodded.

(in his best Doc Brown voice from Back to the Future) "Great Scott!!!" The most a standard umodded amp will take is 8 volts. Nate - remember back in the day when 2 volts was the @!#$ and most pre-outs were 500ma?

They aren't even a true 4v output my good friend. VERY FEW HU's actaully do put out true ratings when it comes to preout voltage.

Alpine is your friend. Ebay up some of the CDA 7*** series HU (older but Rock solid, and Crystal lcear audio. 9855, 9835, 9831, all HU which are your friend.

I'm personally a big fan of Blaupunkt. The simple fact that it resets the volume to a lower one each time you turn off the car so that it doesn't blast your ears when you go back into the car (especially in the morning when you first wake up, ouch does it hurt). I got mine second-hand so i can't quote the price or it's specs.

I used to think Pioneer decks were good.....until I started installing them. I'd take an Alpine or Eclipse over Pioneer any day.

I've got a Kenwood KDC-MPV622. The only problem I've had so far (in four years) is that the faceplate has gotten a little loose and at times and the display went out. Possibly an easy fix. Haven't taken that much time to look into it. Awesome for MP3 playback, Sirius Satellite ready, connects to CD changer, and customizable in that you can change the color of the face to just about any color to match your interior lights/neons, and you can change the button color between green and red to match your interior lights. Overall, I'm satisfied with my HU.

I like my Pioneer deck. its the premier one..but unfortunately im gonna get a new deck when i come home as mine cannot support iPod usage. Its an early 2003 model. DEH-P650. Really simple to use too. Cant remember the specs off it but it has 3 pre outs and i think an aux too.. Sony decks suck. I would aslo look into alpine.

I used to use pioneer. Never had any complaints out of it, either. Now I'm happier with my Kenwood. One thing though, it seems like Kenwood sounds like crap on stock systems for some reason. I lost just about all of what little bass I had in the stock system when I installed it. My wife also has a Kenwood HU, but no subs, amp, etc, and I can't hardly squeeze enough bass out of her stock system for anything. We're installing a 400W Visonic sub and 350W MOFSET amp in hers soon. She just wants a little extra bump. Nothing real loud, just something to make her music sound better. I don't want to steal the thread, but while I'm here, I'd like to ask if visonik is a good brand and if it will do the trick for her. She's not really an audiophile, she just wants bass she can hear. I know she wants it to be clear bass, though. She does prefer quality whenever possible.
