On my girlfriend's 2004 Sunfire, we always have to turn on the fog lights with the switch. As soon as we turn the car off start it back, we have to turn on the fogs. I don't know but this is geething on my nerve. My 1999 Z24 was not like this. As soon as the switch was on they were on for good. Mod for this annoying feature?

Go to GM and have them change the programming in the BCM (body control module) with a Tech 2?
Odd, my 2000 didn't do that.... 2000+ cars use Class 2 wiring... for the fogs, it's actually a pushbutton, not a real switch... you're "asking" the BCM to turn the fogs on, and when it does it turns on the little light in the switch as well. 95-99 cars used an actual switch... you could hack up a 95-99 switch, fit it in place of the 04 switch you have... then re-wire the fog lights to the switch directly, bypassing the BCM.
john...i was going to wire up an aftermarket set of fogs to fit my BC2 front to the stock GM switch...i got the GM one for my 2002...you wouldnt by chance be able to help me wire that up would you? there is 3 connections off the switch...i wasnt sure what was what.

the switch from the 95-99 j-bodies is an actuall switch, and like lenko said, the newer ones are a pushbutton.
since it is a pushbutton, when you push it it will turn on the fogs. once the fogs are turned on, it should energize a coil behind the button, which keeps the circuit closed.
if it wasnt for this coil, the circuit would be closed when the button is pushed, but as soon as you let go, it would open. if the coil was gone, you would need to hold the button ("JOG" is the term used for that type of switch)
or, by the sounds of it the BCM in the cars with class 2 wiring is like a small PLC (Programmable Loogic Controller). when an input (I) on a PLC is activated, it can kind of energize like a coil does and activate the output (O). as soon as power the the PLC(BCM) is turned off, the energized output is opened and the circuit wont work until the process is restarted.
if the lights are controlled by the BCM, i dont even think that the TECH2 will have an effect on it. if it is a coil, you might be able to salvage the switch. best bet is to just replace the switch with a 95-99 one and rewire it. it will need a complete rewire if the wires run through the BCM. you would have to bypass it and go directly to the fogs.
