I have a 2001 cavalier with the factory radio.
I've put my sub in my car today and last summer I installed a switch to turn it on/off. Now I want to have a real remote output for my amp. I check every wires on the radio harness and found no remote(+12V) when I turn the radio ON. There is a constant 12V but no 12V when ON.
I found out that there's other pins right beside the harness(like another harness that can be plugged there) and was wondering if I can find a remote output from those pins???
Anyone have done that before?
You aren't gonna find one behind the radio. Go to your ignition harness and tap it at the pink wire and FUSE it. And now please let the rest of them come in and tell you to tap it at the fuse box.
just run the trigger wire, or remote turn on lead (same thing), to your fuse box under the wheel by the drivers feet.
pull the fuse pannel out, the whole thing, and then wire it up to there.
something like the wiper motors, which will only work when the ignition is set to "on" will do the job.
i did this with my fog lights. once you have the whole pannel out, there should be a spare lead or two that you can wire it up to just by crimping it on to the existing fuse leads. (hard to explain, but i know what i mean)
anyways, befre you just wire it up, check with a volt meter or multi meter and make sure the lead you wire it up to is off when the car is off and on when the car is on.
if you have know idea what i am talking about, ask for help, take it to a pro, or just use the switch that you have already made.
Injection is nice but id rather be BLOWN!
Thank you guys.
I already hook the remote to the iginition wire last evening. I wanted to hook it on a real radio remote but when I didn't found it, I wired this remote to the iginition.
could have just used a LOC also. such as a pac trunk LOC. run your speaker wires from the deck to the LOC, and it has a built in remote output on it.

you wont find a acc or remote wire behind the deck. it uses a databus signal to turn on. so the only proper way to get a switched power source is from the brown or pink ign wires.

OR FROM A LINE OUTPUT CONVERTOR WITH REMOTE TURN ON.

my remote comes from the radio harness, does that mean im tappign the class-2 system? i thought purple was class-2. either way it does work. Course i have the monsoon with a factory amp so maybe thats why.
If you have a factory amp (in the trunk, behind the carpet on the driver's side) then you DO have this wire... it's pink.
If you don't... you don't...
Don't know though... if the radio may have the output, and just no wire on the pin.
I had it easy. My MTX amp runs a Smart Engage using power from the rear speakers via RCA converter that came with the amp. It feeds signal to the line level inputs, which turns on the amp. So when I turn off the radio, the amp turns off too. Nice.
