okay, so fibreglass box is made, vinyled and doin great, but my buddy wants other drivers now. the airspace is significantly smaller with the new ones.
can i use expanding foam inside the box, shave it untill its the correct volume, then glass over it? im thinking the heat of the chemical reaction will melt the foam. even with tin foil covering it, it'll get pretty hot. has anyone attempted this before?
any other suggestions to decrease box volume would be appreciated.
after you put your foam in..just put masking tape over it, then glass it.
Also you can just make a shape with some cardboard and tape it all together, then glass over top of that.

If you're planning on using Great Stuff foam, the 'glass won't melt it. Also, floral foam holds up just as well.
when you say floral foam, is that the weird green stuff that squishes and breaks apart? i think it sucks up water too doesnt it?

Yeah, that's the stuff. I don't know if all of it absorbs water like that though. The stuff I bought just says it's to stick the stems of vynal flowers in.
im wondering if you make the shape, then just douce it in resin.. maybe might not even need to do matte on it lol....
youlle still need to matte it or it won't have any strenght, strength comes from the material not the resin itself.
and as said with expanding foam the fiberglass wont melt it. ive used it several times to make some really odd shaped items. and the floral foam is good too although sometimes its hard to find in shapes big enough for what you may need and then your left to gluing them together and then shaping them. the floral foam is really easy to shape though.
