ok well i dont know anything really about sound systems, but i want one lol, what all do i need to have a good sound system? I know i need a deck, sub, but what else. I know about amps and stuff but i dont know what kind i need and such. Plus wats a good brand i should get. Also, is it possible get a fairly good setup for around $800-1000??
also i found some Alpine Type R subs for a reasonable price, if i got like 2 what will i need? a 2nd amp?
4 amps, 2 for each because type-r's are a little on the powerful side.
damn I can't be that much of an @!#$.
In reality, look at the watts RMS on the amp, if it's say, 500 for each sub, and each sub is 4ohms, then you should bring it down to 1ohm on the amp, which should cover 1000 watts. Don't look at the max wrms, because it will work for a second, then you'll have to get the extinguisher. I'm sure other people can help you a lot more.
so as to my other question would i be able to get a fair system for like $1000 or so? give or take a few hundred $
you can get an awesome system for 1000 dollars. Get the 2 12 inch type-r's and get at least a 1000watt rms amp. As for a stiffing cap, dont need one.
Yeah I got my subs, amp, headunit, box for around 1400, but boith my subs were bigger and double the price of type-r's, so it can be done.
just wondering, should i get 1 TYpe X sub or 2 type R's?? it would cost the same pretty much. just wondering which would be better.
IDK aboot pricing, total my system cost $800-$900 and I am very happy with it but i got some good deals here and there
If you want that sub and you are near thunder bay or sault saint marie you could probably arrange a pickup, if you are near port huron or detroit PM me and we can work something out if you want that sub.
naw i wasn't really interested, just thought it would be awsome lol, thanks for offering though.
yeah it is possible to get a really good deal, all depending on who you know. I got two comp. JL 10's, 800 watt matched amplifier, box and wiring kit all for 80 bucks. also i got a kenwood deck with mp3, satellite radio, and the works for 60 bucks and i think its a bad ass system and it sounds good. i also have kenwood mids and highs but i bought those myself store price at best buy(rip off)
lucky you lol, id kill for a deal like that
how much you figure that would have cost you if you got it from the stores?
to tell you the truth i never really thought about it but i think that it would probably run me around 700 to 800 bucks minus installation if i were to get them installed by on of the stores.
ALSO I HAVE A TON OF SOUND SYSTEM STUFF THAT NEEDS TO BE SOLD JUST NAME IT AND I WILL SEE IF I CAN GET IT VERY CHEAP!!!!!!!!!!!!
it seems as though everyone gets the idea that "complete system" means boom in the trunk and everyone forgets about setting up a half decent front stage to get GOOD complete sound... everything for 1k is possible, why are u hung up on type-Rs? you going for more Sound Quality and full range clarity as the recordings wanted it to be, or do you want your system just to be loud and bass heavy? basicaly, i realy dont mind helping out and suggesting stuff that you need but a few things you gotta tell us first...
1. What kind of music do you listen to and what kind of sound do you want (loud and boomy, full and clear, etc..)
2. What do you need? meaning, have you already got a good head unit that you plan to use? front stage? amps? subs? or are you needing EVERYTHING to fall into your budget?
3. Budget, absolute most you are willing to spend on everything? Im going to assume the answer to this is about $1k?
On the other hand....you have other fingers.
I just bought a 20 inch widescreen ultrasharp flat pannel..I'm going to have to subscribe to the high quality porn places now......damn

1. rock, classic rock, hip hop, everything basicly, i want sound quality, not just booming.
2. well i have 6x9 kicker ks693's that are fine for me i think, the deck thats in it sucks so i wanna replace it.
3. Im aiming for $1300 max i think, if its like $200 more or something ill just have to wait till the following paycheck.
ok, sounds VERY reasonable, as far as the rears go, IF you wanna use them as to not waist the money you spent on them leave em running off the deck, fade to the front, thats taken care of..(although i prefer you remove them all together and see how u like the sound)
HU, look for an ..
managers over my shoulder, finish when i get home lol

I see no reason why you can't put together a good system for under a grand.
The best piece of advice I can offer is this:
Rather than just take our word for it, the best thing you can do is go around to various stereo shops and demo as many speakers/subs as you can. Preferably in a demo car, but even a sound board can give you a decent idea of how different speakers will sound.
Once you have found speakers that you like (that are close to your price range of course), by all means come here and ask us questions about them. Quite a few of us have alot of experience with car stereos, and someone can help you out by letting you know of any reliability/warranty issues, good alternatives for you to look at, where to get the best price etc. Your goal is definitely attainable with some research.
Good luck, and don't be afraid to ask questions.

yeah like unholy said, LISTENING will be your biggest decision maker. but just for @!#$s and giggles, im gunna throw out some stuff to consider, because im just in the mood to type and give advice tonight lol
HU: If you want the most functions out of a good deck in a decent price, look at the Alpine 985X series, or check out some middle road Pioneers as well... Eclipse also makes some GREAT sounding and functioning decks that will perform well and give you the options needed, i realy see no need for the cost of a decent deck to exceed $250
Front Components: on this budget to get the absolute best bang for the buck... i revert back to the CDT CL61's that i seem to be recomending a lot to people on a budget looking for amazing quality sound... $140 shipped with some free speaker wire as well off woofersetc.com
Sub: Honestly.... for a good all around SQ set-up on a slight budget, a single 12 inch sub ported and tuned fairly low would be a very good way to go..and good SQ sub recomendations for lower cost, sends me right back to ED, a single 13K.v2 in a ported box tuned to 30hz will give you just what you want out of a sub and that sub with the forum discount is only like $75 I think?
AMPS: Component amp: any quality, reputable 2 channel amp putting out 100-150 watts RMS per channel at 4 ohms is a winner here
Sub amp: look for a good class D mono amp putting out around 500 watts RMS, more can be better for headroom to upgrade later, a little less isnt gunna hurt either... but you DO wanna milk all the output its capable of dont you?
some amp brands to consider would be anything by DEI(orion, directed, viper, ppi), soundstream(their PCA amps are amazing for a good price too), Cadence(refurbs on e bay can be found amazingly cheap!!!), and of course, if u plan on getting a sub from ED, why not their amps as well?? their forum price is very very good! and they are damn solid amps!!!
and for the sub box, honestly, if u want it to be custom built for you, tuned to the subs specs and built to the subs specs and completely carpeted and finished for you... e mailing JD, at soundsthatpound.com would be a good place to start!! elemental designs also builds boxes for their subs, so if u get en ED sub, check pricing with them and with JD and see who suits you best. might be just as easy to get one right from them

tyvm JL that answers all of my questions basicly
I trust any brands/models you suggest as i am 100% about SQ
that $75 sounds good to me lol, do you know by chance that these places will ship to Canada? I REALLY hope so lol.
im pretty sure they will, and if they do ask them about carrier options... UPS charges some insane charges to ship to canada i hear.... and if they can mark the packages as gifts, im pretty sure that waives some fees too lol
