Hey all. I just purchased a brand new Pioneer head unit which has just about every option there is available. Now that I have a great head unit I need great speakers to match. I have a 2002 cavalier base coupe and was wondering what brand of speakers and which size would be the best for my car. Any help would b greatly appreciated
Thanks

me being a big Memphis fan and work for a shop whose main line is Memphis i am going to push you towards this way. ultimately you will make your own decision but here is what we have. you can also go to, to get all the specs on the speakers, amps, subs, and wires nullhttp://www.memphiscaraudio.com

Going by our prices and also looking on eBay and other web sites I have determined a pretty decent price of what you can get. If I found 3 prices I chose the higher price just to give you a buffer and a maximum that it would cost you to get everything. This is based upon you installing it yourself, or having someone else do it for you, not a licensed installer. You mentioned that you wanted something decent and will give you a little bump. This is not by far for competition purposes, however they have other products that will indeed get you in that direction.

Ok, starting with front speakers 4x6's part #15-PRC46 $45pr
6x9's part #15-PRC92 $160 pr
1 dual 4ohm 15" sub part #15-PR154D $99
Memphis belle 5ch amp part # 16-MCH1300 $599
wires 4 gauge kit part # 17-4GPKI $75

total $978

you can make your own box for about $20-$50 depending on the wood you buy , carpet and materials, liquid nail, screws, you can even go as far as fiber glassing the inside of the box. or you can get a prefabbed sealed box for about $60 or a vented box for about $80 so you are looking at $1058 as the maximum price. there isn't anything else you would need except just the time to do a clean install. with this system you would really not need to do any upgrades however, I am positive that you will have some power wire left and you can do some of the big 3. (that is listed in the sticky up at the top)

well that is what you can find on Memphis, good luck with your decision whatever it may be.
you may also go to our shops website at

shop and if you have any questions just email me

For the front doors, many 5.25 and 6.5" round speakers will fit if you build your own trim rings out of 3/4" MDF. The purpose of the 3/4 ring is to bring the speaker out far enough so that the back of the magnet doesn't hit the glass then you roll the windows down. You have to be careful though, as the mounting depths of some 5 1/4 and 6 1/2 speakers is too deep even with the 3/4" trim rings. Don't worry - with the trim ring you shouldn't have to cut any sheet metal.

You will hear a considerable difference between factory (even aftermarket) 4x6 speakers and a good set of 5.25 or 6.5" coaxials or components.
As for brands, it's all subjective. My advice is to go to all the local audio shops and listen to as many speakers as you can. One thing I can tell you is that, for under $200, CDT speakers are pretty tough to beat. But that's me - you might listen to them and not really like the sound.
When you find something you like, by all means post it here on the .org. Chances are very good that someone has some experience with them, and can tell you if they'll fit, and how they thought they performed.

Good luck!

one other thing to post real quick while i got a minute... once u audition some stuff you are considering, as well as posting on here, check out caraudioforum.com, caraudio.com and icix.com....seriously... lots of smart people on there as well, and you can avoid El Fago's BS advice and "oh my car is supercharged with a color matched CF hood, and i live in the ghetto balh blah blah i should kill myself"
