300 amp alternator for eco?
Thursday, July 20, 2006 7:13 AM
Was planning on putting a new 2.4 in my 99 sunfire when i found out the biggest alt. i can get for my car is around 180amps, now with what im doing on the inside that will def not be enough, granted i will be running two optima red top batteries and two 12 farad caps(may lose the caps and go w/ a 3rd battery depending on how the car runs) but with the tv's,air ride and system i am installing i just dont think 180amp alt will do it, I've heard they make a 300 amp alt. for the eco, I can get ahold of an eco w/ the trany w/ 12k on it for around $1400 so that was of interest to me......does any1 know if there is,ive lo0ked around and seen 200 and 220 amp but no 300amp,any help to clarify this would help, thanks guys.......

that isnt for the ecotec!!! there is something about the ecos that is different than the normal 2.2 and 2.4 i cant remember what it is off hand but it is a big deal. I know because dom triple checked it with me when i ordered BOTH of mine.

you can fit one...but it's gonna take some work and a custom bracket. as well as a little re-wiring of your stock wires.

the alt is on top of the motor on thw 2.2 &2.4. on the eco it down between the rad and block. there in there pretty tight.

no thats not it either. its something electrical. I believe it has to do with the alt shutting off over a certain rpm with the ecos or something like that.
