I'm trying to attach a scanner to my alarm. I'm having problems figuring out which wire to tap into for the yellow wire from the scanner. Black is already to ground and red is 12v constant.
Yellow wire needs to see ground when armed, so I thought that I could tap into the ignition wire that comes from the brain. Is that the correct way to do it, or is there another way that would work appropriately?
Here's a pic of the wire diagram for the alarm.
Here's what I was thinking of doing.
Thanks for any help.
this is how i hooked mine up i took the red and yellow and tied it to 12 volt constant and wired the ground into the existing led ground
i'll give that a try. did you use a diode at all, or just the wiring along?
it's a little hot right now, so i'll wait until later on tonight.
thanks
my scanner didnt need a diode but i dont know if youres does if it came with one i would suggest using it so u dont burn youre scanner up
i connected the red and yellow to 12v constant and black to the ground of the led. the scanner doesn't turn on. the scanner does work appropriately. i tested it out before i connected. it just doesn't work with that wiring. do you have any other ideas?
i thought that the yellow had to read ground in order for it to turn on?
different scanners hook up differently if the yellow needs to be grounded try red to 12v constant black to ground yellow to current led ground
screw all that just hook it up to ur igntion so when the car is off its on and when the key is in its off worked out great for me!
5 seconds to find another street...
i had it connected so that it always turned on with the ignition off. that's the second diagram i have up on top with the scanner connected to the cutoff for the ignition. the only thing i didn't like was that it would turn on when i had the car in park or neutral as well. the method up on top is when the car is off.
i just wanted to see if there was a different method. thanks for the help.
well mine works when i arm my alarm and turns off when i disarm my alarm just throwing out my advice hope it helped
the only problem i had was that it wasn't strong enough. the ground that it picks up from the led is too small and not enough. most alarms come with the extra auxiliary wire that provides the right amount, but mine doesn't. that's why i was trying to figure out a different method.
i just don't want my battery to drain because i wired it wrong or something.
thanks
u wont drain your battery with it no matter how u hook it up unless u leave your car not running for weeks on end leds have extremly low draw on your battery
