I just picked up a GMT2049 made by Scosche. It is also referred to in the documentation as a GM11 GM Radio Replacement Interface with Adjustable Warning Chime. Apparantly it is all you need to maintain the vehicle chime when installing an aftermarket head unit in a 2000 and up Cavalier. It is also good for a number of other GM vehicles. I purchased it at Walmart in Grove City, Pa for $30. I also found the Dash install kit for $10 and the antenna adapter for $5. Has anyone used these items? Is there anything else I will need for a do it yourself installation? I am looking at installing the Pioneer
DEH-7800MP head unit. Still debating whether I should drive to Buffalo, NY to get it. The unit sells here in Canada for $599 canadian but I can get it at Best Buy for $420 U.S. Even with the exchange it does come out cheaper.

I have that interface for the chimes. It works,,,,the only problem is that once in a blue moon
when you start your car the chimes keep ringing and it gets annoying. Which is not hard to fix,
I turn the car off, open the door and turn it on to the acc and it fixes it. It beats paying $99 or so.
I have the same one it chimes non stop if the door is open when you start the car easy to fix though. i installed it myself. it is a simple plug in unit.
I finished the install. Everything works great even the chime module. Picked up the IPOD adaptor in the states and it was pretty easy to install. Next step will be new 6X9's and 4X6's. Thinking about JBL. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Might also look at amps and a sub. Probably Rockford will be at the top of the list. Again any thoughts would be appreciated. If I go the amp route more than likely I will upgrade both the altenator and the battery( 160 amp and a yellow top). Hope I can win the lottery to do it right LOL.
Comments and Suggestions appreciated

Go with 6 1/2's components and 6x9's. There's other brands than rockford, like cdt, lanzar opti, etc...
how die hard are you about getting the most out of your music?
Sure the easiest and cheapest way to get better than stock sound would be a Head Unit, and replacing the stock speakers.
BUT, if you want to make sure to get the most out of your music, the best way to do that would be a good 6.5 inch component set upfront, off an amp providing them ample power, and a good sub or subs in the back off another amp. leaving the stock rears off the head unit, or try disconnecting them all together and see how you like the sound... i could get into more details about why do this and why do that and how things work, but if you are realy considering replacing the speakers and want some guidance there, get a little more detailed on what kinda music you like most, what kinda sound you are going for, and what kind of money you plan to spend on getting the best sound possible.
and BTW, nice head unit lol
On the other hand....you have other fingers.
I just bought a 20 inch widescreen ultrasharp flat pannel..I'm going to have to subscribe to the high quality porn places now......damn
I enjoy a wide variety of music. Classic Rock, Accapella, Gospel and Country, 60's classics. I am mainly looking for good sound quality without distortion at high volumes. When I am in the car alone I like the volume loud but I have to turn it down when my wife and son are with me. My wife does not enjoy as she calls it the thump thump thump of the bass. I enjoy good quality bass. I have already Dynamatted the trunk. Cost is not a big factor since there is always the Best Buy credit card. LOL

if you gonna just run like a good four channel amp and a set of 6.5" compontents and maybe a sub or two i wouldnt bother upgrading the alt and battery!
I have had my 2,000 watt amp powered by a stock alt and stock battery without any dimming, just do the big 3 upgrade save your self money. if interested in the BIG 3 let me know i can tell you how to do it or you can purchase my kit off my site (click the sig for more details) Just thought i would let you know bro! and try to save your self money!
Who needs a sig?

big 3 is a good start always, so he is right, do that.. now when you say best buy credit card, i would hope best buy isnt your only shopping place for car audio, cuz you are missing the world of REAL products... not a limitation of mainstream and mostly junk stuff (RF and Alpine and Pioneer are the pinacle of best buys selection unfortunately)...
In all honesty, from the looks of it, good clean sound all around are your goals... I personaly would do this.. and this is just me.... and i know some people like shopping in one place so this might be the best way to go... (although if you want more options, i and others on here will obviously be able to broaden the seach, im just lazy right now and will tell you what I would do if i was going to redo everything right now..)....
Elemental Deisngs has forum pricing, Alex Lindeman will probly link you to it sometime here lol...
so if i was going to re-do my system, i would go to eD's website, and order these:
pair of 11Ov.2's in a sealed box
NINe.1 to power them
pair of 6500 components
pair of 4X6 to 6.5 inch adapter/spacers from 3/4 MDF
NINe.2 to power them
enough eDead v1-SE^2 to do the rear deck, door pannels, and any other random spots you want, those 2 being the main spots(since you said the trunk is done)
remove rear speakers, leave the holes to help allow bass to vent into the cabin better
wiring kit(s) for the amps from either eD or Knukonceptz.com
big 3 upgrade with 4 guage or larger wire(talk to steetside about a premade kit specificaly for thelengths needed in a j body)
i think that covers it....
