Alternate Speaker Locations
Saturday, December 23, 2006 10:21 PM
I just recently upgraded my 4x6 Polks to 6.5" in my front doors and I was wondering if any of you could think of a good location for my 4x6's since I didn't want to just get rid of them. I have also replaced my rear speakers with 6x9 Polks so I am good as far as that goes, but I wanted to know where I could stick two extra speakers just for fun. Thanks!

without amping them, adding more speakers isn't going to be any louder. might as well stick to 4, amp them well and be done with it....i wont say any more about cancelation or how to aim things or anything of the nature, because James might come in and bltch about how not everyone wants the best possible sound with what they have (rolling my eyes now)

On the other hand....you have other fingers.

I just bought a 20 inch widescreen ultrasharp flat pannel..I'm going to have to subscribe to the high quality porn places now......damn

Could put the 4x6's back in the door and get some kickpods for the 6.5's

Just a thought

Could stick the 4x6's on something metal and hook em up and rock em out just like that! Or you could be like this Eagle 4x4 and cut holes in your roof and mount subs!!!

Hmm, So it wouldn't make any difference then? I have my mains amped pretty good with a pair of tweeters running straight from my head unit. I was thinking of running the 4x6's off of the rear outputs from the head unit as well and placing them somewhere in the middle maybe under the seat or something. I didn't know if it would work. So not a good idea?

I honestly don't think it would be anything to brag about. I don't think you should realy waist your time. BUT if you have enough spare time to tinker, try it if you want. Again, I'll try to stay away from giving any kind of car audio knowledge or educated advice, because I seem to get people who bltch because "everyone is different" so let this be my THIS IS MY PERSONAL EDUCATED ADVICE AND OPINION, NOT TELLING PEOPLE WHAT TO DO SO SHUT YOUR MOUTH disclaimer....

get a good set of comps (with crossover, mid and tweet, rather than amping coaxials and running tweets off the internal amp), and amp them that way, you could do kick pods, or do adapters/baffles in the doors. and as for rear, well, that is all personal taste, I don't run rear, I don't like rears as long as I got a good front stage. But some people do, and you seem like you spent some money on some rear speakers, So no reason for me to tell you to ditch them. ALSO, what are you running for subs? Subs will make a HUGE difference, if running a sub or 2, you now have the ability to low pass the sub so it ONLY tries to play the frequencies it was meant for, and high pass a good set of components, so they dont strain to go lower than they're made to go. End result of this simple set up (sub, mono amp low passed, comps, 2 channel amp high passed), combined with some sound deadening(i will recomend eDead), and good solid baffles for your speakers, will give you one hell of a good little system for not too much cash... this is all my opinion, aand notice, when setting up good imaging and getting the most for the least money, I'm not saying to buy 4-6-8 speakers, one good set of front comps mounted solidly, a good sub in a nice strong MDF box, and amps to push em will be about all the sound equip you need to get loud and sound good.

^^^ i love good solid answers like that. For the most part, if you don't know what you're doing, don't just randomly put speakers all over the car. Even with a set of subs, a good set of components AMPED up front is decent. But then sometimes you get all retarded n'at and you put 2 sets of amped components up front.

Best move I ever made was just amping components up front and running subs. I cant stand to get in a car and hear music coming from the back now. Now I just have to replace the two infinity reference subs with the 13Ov.2 I pickup up before the forum discounts were gone. Gotta fix the dash crack first though. It's hitting the windshield on rough roads.

Although I do have speakers in the back, and they are amped, they blend in with everything else. It engulfs you with sound. If you don't do it right, you can really screw up your sound stage and actually cancel sound out if the speakers aren't placed right. I'm rolling with one set of components up front, getting the 2nd set put in soon.
