Need help with new speakers!!!
Tuesday, December 26, 2006 9:50 PM
i got some new speakers for the sunfire i got the custom plate4x6 infinity references for the front. and i got 3 way infinity 6x9 references for the back and a rockford 4 channel amp. i got the amp power ran but then i got to the audio input for it. i want to keep the factory unit so i dont loose my stock xm but it doesnt have rca outputs. i knew something about "speaker convertors" so it will use my speaker wire and turn it into rca cables.where can i get the convertors and are they worth buying or should i forget and the xm and just get a new head unit.
second i went to put in the fronts and i cant get the window crank off. so i decided to go to the back speakers and my little stock speaker brackets dont fit around the infinity's. i need to know where to get the brackets that fit. and how to remove the window crank.
my last problem is how do i tell what is positive and negative with the factory speaker cables. if you guys could help me with some or all of these problems i would grwatly appreciate it.

For the RCA's:

For the window crank, either go to the auto-parts store and get a window crank removal tool, or,

Fixed the second link (copy/paste doesn't really work sometimes on my computer... not sure why)...

They may carry the converters, if you want to keep your stock deck, then yeah, you're going to have to pick some up.

All the converter will do is change the output from a 2 wire power/ground to RCA. From there you are running the RCA cables to the amp and the power/ground wires from the amp back to the speakers.

The quality of the sound is going to depend on how you set the gains on the amp and how the EQ is set up on the HU.

Nice choice for components BTW

thanx and one more thing about the convertors is where would be a good place to mount them

As close to the HU as possible. Use a 4 chan converter and then just run the RCA's straight to the amp.

alright i have had so many problems with this my 6x9 wouldnt fit so i bent the metal down to make them fit and my xm radio box was in the way so i took a break with that and started working on the front i got the speaker to rca convertors hooked up and got the fronts in just to find out that one of the speakers was blown.so i had to take the door panels off package them up and take them to bestbuy to exchange them. this has been the biggest pain in the ass ever. i wish someone could of given me a warning
how did u guys mount your 6x9's

i had the same problem putting my jl 6x9s in.....im hoping you ddint cut to much, cuz what i did was drill from the bottom up, use a template the speakers came with (or make one, so you know where each drill hole is) but what i suggest is mounting them on the bottom. I did this and my speakers still sound amazing. (if you want i can send you some pics.)

yea it didnt come with a template and i had bent and cut to much metal before i though of mount from the bottom but i got circuitcity to do it for 25 bux which i thought was worth it and i reccomend to everyone who gets 6x9 to just take it to cc and pay 25 dolla.
i did get it all hooked up and it sounds pretty damn good in my opinion my setup is
infinity plate 4x6's
infinity 3 way 6x9
a rockford four channel p450 for those
and 2 rockford punch p1 subs
with a rockfor p325 amp for them
i love the clarity of the infinity and the subs give them the bass they were missing
i spent about 700 dollars total and i thought it was worth it
thanx for all the help guys
