I have a stock 2000 Sunfire CD player and it is non RDS and doesn't use a rear amp. I'm not using it for anything.
you can, but if its an RDS radio it'll need to be taken to the dealership to be flashed. they're coded with the original car's vin so they're useless if stolen.
GO PATS!!!
The 200 I have is non RDS
I don't know where you people get this stuff.... RDS has nothing to do with theftlock.... RDS is a radio feature. Like XM. Like FM. Like a CD player compared to a Cassette.
If it's a 2000+ radio, you HAVE to go to the dealership to get the VIN reflashed into it. Doesn't matter if it has RDS or not.... because RDS IS JUST A RADIO FEATURE! (Always has been!)
RDS
----------------------------
now on this same topic if my cav does not have rds from the factory can i put in a radio that has rds and have it work?
RDS is a
FEATURE that is
INCLUDED with the radio. It doesn't matter what your car had, another form of this question would be "I have a radio with just cd playing features, can I put a radio with mp3 playing features in my car."
If the radio has it included, it doesn't matter what your car came with, it will work because its a feature of the specific
RADIO.
----------------------------
^ Exactly.
Think of RDS as just another AM, FM, XM, etc... If you want to replace your stock plain jane AM-only radio with one that has all the bells and whistles... RDS.. MP3.. XM... whatever... it's just another radio. Has nothing to do with the car.
Now Class 2... that's another story. If you have a 00-05 J-body... you have a Class 2 radio stock... you can't take your deck and put it into a non-Class 2 car and expect it to turn on... because it won't...
