Amp just stopped working.
Monday, July 09, 2007 6:47 PM
Hello, I have 2-10" alpine Type-R subs running off an alpine amp. Yesterday they just stopped working. The light on the amp isn't lighting up anymore and the fuses plugged into the amp are fine....any ideas what is wrong?

Check your remote lead.

you more then likely blew the amp or it in protect mode do you have dual 4 ohm or dual 2 ohm voice coils if there dual 4 you may want to buy 2 of these if it not in protect mode http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=3732&CFID=5205619&CFTOKEN=36af13b2e7b1f8db-AE0903B5-1422-7C6E-5011D40041FBBBD6

if dual 2 tell me because you will blow two more i can find you the right amp which is more then likely maxsonics either hifonics or auto teck and you will have to buy two of those to make the amps last too. if and i mean if it is a pdx1.1000 it's in protect mode because it is digital amp you need a release code to release it from protect mode truthfully i would get rid of it because of them only being stable down to 2 ohms most of their amps in other words e bay it if it still works also you could check the rem wire but i think it in protect or blown

check your remote and check the fuse on the power wire. Double check all connections if all is good then your amp may be done....

I hooked up my buddies amp and it was the same problem....checked the wiring and everything looks fine, checked the inline fuse to see if it is blown but couldn't tell...

if you do not have a meter get one of these http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?cat=Electrical+Shop&pid=03482372000&vertical=TOOL&subcat=Multi-Meters%2C+Testers+%26+Accessories&BV_UseBVCookie=Yes

oh ya all you have to do is put it on ohms and touch the two lead to the ends of the fuse wile the fuse is disconnected for the circuit if you got o.L. it blown if you get a small reading it fine like .03 all the way up to 10 amps it could be any thing these are just examples it could be .001 and it will not be blown any ways also check ground to frame it may not be a good connection

i had my eclipse amp blow up on me. what it is is there are capasitors (sry for spelling) in the amp that sometime go or lose there charge from a large bass hit. to see if thats the problem take a piece of wire strip both ends and jump from the hot line to the remote line in on the amp if it turns on thats your problem, just like jumping a car. i know how it sounds and be very care once it turns on pull the wire away. let me know if this was your problem also

i do this every day and i am thinking there could be like up to 15 problems with this. Anyway can you describe your setup? What i mean by that is this:
My Car
0 ga wire front to back
100 a fuse block
18 farad massive cap
power acoustik 1900 watt amp
sony 500 watt amp
amps and cap are grounded separately
running 2 12" alpine type x sub woofers & 2 12" alpine type r sub woofers

if my system were to go "dead" i would check the following.
under the hood fuse (more than likely it is blown)
check the cap (is that getting power)
for redundancy i have a fuse from cap to amp so i would check that
check all on board fuses (one could be blown and you not know it. pull all fuses out and check)
i have a multimeter so i would then check the ohms from amp to subs
then see if there was a charge to the amp
after all of that i would check all wire for signs of strain or breaks (REPLACE WIRE IF THERE IS)
make sure the remote wire is connected (i have mine on a switch)
maybe then i might think my amp is dead.
if i come up with anything more i will post but if you need more you can email me

Yea and i agree with pool hall check all your wires but when u jumped it if the amp turned on its shows you that the amp is getting power and the ground is fine. now when u jumped it did you have your head unit on? cause if not you could have a bad remote on line comeing out of your head unit. which is also and easy fix around that.
