why did you take the dash apart you can get it from under the dash. i cant remember what color it is but its there use a multimeter and test. if you dont have a meter or know how to use one you should not be doing this job.

Use the fuse box as a referance for wire colors. Find the fuse for the wires your looking for, and look and see what the color of the wires are going to that fuse at the back of the fuse box.

i tapped in to the fog lights its worked ok but who wants to solder under the dash upside down i might actually get a switch for them and a switch for the boost controller too and wire it all up nice.

just go off the wire that powers the lights for the cluster. I've got my fog light switch's power lead and my tach's light running off it and haven't had a problem! hop online for an engine diagram, i forget what color the wire is...

I tapped into my headunit power wire. I've had it hooked up like this forever and never have had a problem. Also, it's easy to find.

Dude, if you wan't to do it the right way, you should hook your illimination wires for your aftermarket gauges to the same powersource that you stock gauges use. There's other ways to hook up wires than soldering them, if you don't feel like doing it that way under the dash.

You only need to tap off the wiring harness going to the cluster. Both the ground and the power for the dash lights are in that harness. There is no where else you need to be trying to get to.

The only pieces that need to come off your dash are your top, and the face. I wouldn't call that ripping the whole dash apart. If you do, then you should be taking your car to a shop to have your gauges installed.

The dimmer switch also has the hookups. I believe it's the BROWN wire. I used the GRAY wire and it goes with the factory dimmer, which I hear is bad for the transformer. I need to change that around.

Yes, the inverter for electroluminescent gauges does not like to be dimmed. However, tapping into the gauge cluster harness where the gauges get the power for the lights is the same thing. I just kept my dimmer all the way up so that the inverter wasn't damaged (also, it emits an annoying high-pitch ringing when you dim it). If you really wanted to make sure that it was never subject to dimming, you could hook up a low-amperage relay to it, but it's just as easy to not use your dimmer.

Haha, I know what you're talking about with that ringing. I was all WTF when it first happened. But yeah, if you go the way of the dimmer, just don't use the factory dimmer
