GM Clockspring Q?
Thursday, September 27, 2007 10:53 AM
I would like to know for sure which other GM model I can use their clockspring? I.E.: Grand-Am, Montana, Camaro/Firebird, Aztek, etc. It would have to be compatible with a 2002 S/F GT.

Answers would be helpful.

I forgot to mention the model years too that goes with the models.

Knowing this can be beneficial for the J community.

Still nada?
If we can get the info up, it will be a step closer for steering wheel radio control.

is there anyway that we can even find out the part number?

if we can find that, maybe you can do a cross refference search at like an autoparts store that can get OEM parts or seomthing.

call napa. ask for a clockspring for your car. then ask what years makes and models they fit. end of story. you have your info. altho. sinch your "Mr. Goodwrench" you should already know what years makes and models they fit. and yes. napa does sell clocksprings for our cars. there something like 80 dollars

As if it was that easy... END OF STORY. And because I call myself "Mr. Goodwrench" does not mean I "should already know what years makes and models they fit," I do not work for GM nor for a GM dealership. Lastly, I am not looking for some imitation item made by a no-name brand for NAPA.
Since you didn't post or have any valuable info, you should have done what the rest of the JBO did; stay mute.

most places can do a part interchange. If not have you tried getting the part number from napa and having gm interchange it for a oem one?

I checked gm parts direct. nice of them to not give you the parts number. Maybe try sending them an email asking for the part number. Or even call gm and ask them the part number for the clockspring.

what is a clockspring?

it sits behind your airbag. it has a large coiled wire inside of it that makes the connection to you airbag. it allows you to turn without twisting and pulling wires. when you turn one way the coil tightens and if you turn the other way it loosens. its pretty ingenious actually. just make sure its installed correctly or you will either bind a coil going one way or rip it apart going the other.
