I currently have a tiny sealed enclosure with leaks and such and want to change it to a ported box. i have an alpine type x 12' and a alpine mrd-m1005 amp. how much louder would it be if i got a ported box tuned at 35? would it be pretty noticeable? i hit 126 db with the box i have now.
thanks.
You'll be louder with a proper ported box. Like thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis much louder.
Yeah I'd have to agree with Lanman! You will be ALOT louder, but the type of bass you'll get will be noticably different! With a sealed box, your goin to get a powerful, "punch" to your bass,( Some refer to it as the quickness in the frequency drop). Now with Ported, you actually increase the frequency reponse (within a given frequency). Ultimately, your goin to get more of a raw, edgier bass, depending on setup, you may not get that fast, tight punch of a sealed box but Im willing to bet youll be more than happy with the end result of a proper ported box.PLus, as i have experienced, with the proper ported box, your essentially amplifying the really hard hitting frequencies of a sub. Now just to inform you, ported boxes, on average, are a good bit bigger than its comparable sealed box.( Not quite sure why), so if trunk space doesn't quite matter to you, then go for a decent size ported box and you won't be dissappointed. ultimately, I would say try the proper sized ported box and see if you like it, if not, go back to sealed!!! Now go and piss off as many people as you can!!
144db@38hz! It hurts so good !
your sealed box probably doesnt have enough volume for your subwoofer for you to put a port in it. ported boxes usually have to be much bigger than sealed boxes
"I did it because I wanted to see what it would look like. You should be greatful that I even told you that it would look good. If your to dumb to use photoshop and change the color of your own car then you don't need to see it changed. I'm not going to give my work away. I'll sell the pic to you though for $15."-Adam Kalin
^^JBO is about not being that guy
Yeah. If it's that small you probably won't have enough room for a port tuned under 70Hz. Also, chucking a port into a box doesn't mean you can forget about the leaks. FIX THE LEAKS
