How safe is it to pass my speaker RMS rating?
Monday, February 18, 2008 1:41 PM
I have 2 Pioneer subwoofers that are 800 Watts @ 150 watt RMS 4 Ohm and a Pioneer 760 Watt amp @ 190 RMS X 2 Bridged 4 Ohm. I want to run my amp bridged, but I am concerned about the extra 40 watt RMS my subs would recieve. My question is, if I go ahead and hook things up this way and adjust my amps gain downward some, will it be okay?
Should I have enough headroom to run the 190 watts RMS?

You will be just fine...Remember your gain isnt a power/volume dial it is just to set your voltageinput the same as the preout voltage or as close as you can. Set it up so they arent clipping and you will be just fine..go for it

personal experience had those with one of those amps per sub run single channel bridged, running 2ohms at 380rms. on 1 sub.
my friend had 2 12 in pioneers same as yours im guessing and 2 760 watt pioneer amps in a ported box and ran them hard and didnt begin to distort and was pretty loud and hit good considering.
dont be scared run the piss out of them you'll be happy

blow them up and buy some better subs

They should be fine....if they distort or clip, turn them down!

as long as you set your gains properly and understand what distortion sound like you shouldnt have any problems whatsoever. i prefer to have more power then needed.

right, another term is headroom. having more then what you need. i'd rather push my amp at 60% power then trying to max it out 100% of the time.

you just make sure your giving your sub unclipped power. By setting the gain correctly.
