HID kits 2003 sunfire - two headlight system...

Hello everyone, I'm debating getting an HID kit for my '03 Sunfire, which uses the H9 bulb for highbeams and H11 bulb for lows. For one, if anyone has a suggestion with a decent kit I'm all ears, haha... but my main question was how does the kit work with the highbeams? All the kits I find are only the one H11 bulb.

If my research is correct, you can get hi/lo bulbs that have a physical shield that moves when you engage the highbeams... but what happens to the original stock highbeams? Can you get a separate HID bulb and leave it as 'stock-like' as possible? Or do you just disconnect the stock highbeams and forget about it? Or do I even need to worry about highbeams?

if the stock system uses two separate bulbs, you would need two kits.

Ok...the two kits would differ then right??

Also, it seems my high beam bulb - H9 - is also harder to find.... would I just get two H11 bulbs and use a deflector on one???

the single HID bulb for hi/low is called bi-xenon .. some cars have them factory, and there are retrofit kits you can buy. the bi-xenons are larger than single hid kits.

other cars use a single HID bulb and HID reflector or projector .. and a regular halogen for highs that comes on WITH the lows. could cause a lot of heat in the headlight with both on. the cav is a single bulb setup so i'm not sure if both bulbs come on with the sunfire when you flick on the high beams. it should be simple to wire a circuit to have them both come on using relays.

it sounds like you're just using the HID bulbs with factory reflector .. probably easiest to leave the high beam a halogen, and use the HID for lows if you're just looking to replace bulbs. oh and in that case have fun blinding people on the road

Thanks for the reply....gives me an idea.

My intention was to have as bright as I can in all situations, I do a lot of nighttime highway driving, so high beam HID's would be nice, and the lowbeam HID's more for aesthetics...

And on the sunfire when highbeams come on, regular lights go out just to clear that up.

You at least gave me an idea about how things work tho so thanks.

I had a closer look at the headlights today... the lo-beams already have a defelector around the bulb. Would this work for an HID bulb without modifications?

Also it appears my only option, if I want lo and high HID's but also as 'stock' as possible, I'd be stuck buying two kits probably...hrmm.

If anyone still has a comment it'd be appreciated...

thanks
