Well, I bought a 2005 Cav... It has virtually none of the options installed. It does have a CD Player. I'd like to replace the stock OEM radio with one that at least has an AUX interface on it. I'd even take one that is XM ready if there was such a thing available for the Cav.
The problem that I have is this... There are a ton of OEM radios on Ebay or at junk yards.
I haven't the slightest idea which one will "bolt in" and not require any other components. For instance... I know that on the Pontiac side of the house, I would have to get a Monsoon Amp to run a Monsoon Stereo. Is that the case with any of the Cav OEM radios? I know that I would need cables and interfaces to run an IPod with the AUX and that I would need to find the XM interfaces to install the "stock" XM parts. (if there is an XM for the Cav)
SO, for you folks that have added aftermarket Stereos and Amps... Maybe some part numbers off of your old OEM radios would help me??? I'd like to find the part numbers off of OEM radios that had more options to them, like RDS, or XM.
I know that it sounds like I am going out cheap here, but I actually like how the OEM radios look.
Thanks in advance,
Treb
Need to find me a Quote...
honestly, switching to another oem radio isn't an upgrade.
car audio noob since 1984.
Save yourself the regret and get a nice aftermarket head unit.
Well, I know that the sound quality of an OEM radio is not the greatest... I have a couple of Alpine amps that I plan to use. Eventually, I will get some replacement speakers, but for now, I'd just like to put a better OEM radio in there for now. I realize that it is not an upgrade, but at least I'd be able to use my IPod in my car. I don't care for the struggle with the FM hookups.
I'd be happy with an OEM radio.
Thanks for the input.

We understand your concern, but you do know how expensive a replacement OEM radio is right? It honestly would be cheaper to go aftermarket. Plan to spend a easy couple hundred unless you reflash a used one so it can work in your car. Our Cavy's had the option where you could upgrade to a MP3 CD player, but they are only available through the dealer. Also, it does not have an AUX in. If your still interested, contact your nearest Chevy dealer. They should be able to help you out.
Cheers!!
i think if you put a gm oem radio in your car it wont work, you have to take it to GM to make it work. $50-100 charge
im not sure what its called but the radio has the vin number in it and it has to match the car or it work work (its a anti theft thing)
just go to best buy and get a $100 radio and have them install it for free
Honestly, I am not trying to go cheap here. I really like the factory look. I have not seen an aftermarket install kit (that fills that big Double DIN hole) that I like. If I ever find a Double DIN aftermarket stereo that I like, I may go that route. I keep hoping that Alpine comes out with one someday. I was just looking for a part number for the OEM's so that I can find what I want on EBay or on our classifieds.
I have the radio flash (VIN) part covered.
Thanks for the input....
