So my question is how to bolt down my sub box so that it doesn't get jacked outta my trunk if someone decides to break into it.
Does anyone have any pictures to show how they bolted there subs down?
Thanks in advance,
Doug
bolt the box to the floor .. from inside the box. seal the hole then put the speaker(s) in
14.82 @ 97 mph
x2
What do i need to watch for when i drill the holes?..... the gas tank is under the rear seats rite.
Thanks for the info
if someone really wants your sub, they're going to take it. And personally, I'd rather have a happy thief with my sub, than a pissed off one who @!#$ up my sub, and possibly the rest of my vehicle because they couldnt take it.
heres real theft deterrent.
1. Don't 'bump' in parking lots, at school, in your neighborhood, at parties where you don't know people and within a 1/2 mile depending on how loud your system is.
2. Don't show and don't tell random people you don't know what you have.
Basically the idea is, try not to 'bump' where people can easily spot that its your car. Most of the time when stuff like this gets stolen, someone knew they had it. Thieves usually don't target stock cars hoping they're something good inside. I had a sub just sitting in the back seat of my truck for over a year, you could look in the windows and see it. Never did my truck get broken in to. Luck? perhaps, but being that I did often travel to places with high crime, I'd like to think a little bit of both.

Add to that, dont put stickers in your window that says what you have... ie: alpine, rockford, JL...so on... nothing says STEAL ME more than window stickers
A good 2 way alarm is a good idea if you're worried about someone jacking your subs. I put a Viper 5000 into my cav and it gives me piece of mind whenever I park it. A good thief knows when they hear that "beep" when you arm the alarm that they should move onto the next one. I totally agree with everyone above too don't advertise what you have.
Yah I live in surrey and if u advertise what u got its gonna disappear fast, im looking at the viper 7900 2 way alarm. but im gonna for sure bolt it down from the inside. but what can i do for my amps? I want to make it alittle harder to take off the amps cause its just 4 screws and its gone.
if your that worried i would put the amps under the seats.....get a good two way pager alarm, and disconnect your trunk pop if you have one...also do something about the handle on the seat....try to make it as hard as possible to get in the trunk. i got a prestige aps 997....great 2 way alarm r/s and its only about 150...
LOL @ surrey, and LOL @ viper..... my advice would be a compustar alarm, only because there's a few key differences between the compustars and ANY other alarm out there......
subs/amps, either hide them, flush mount them into something so it's next to impossible to remove them Or.... use tamperproof screws..... (just dont loose the bit!!!!) if ya want any other ideas lemme know as i do this for a living and am semi local.
watch for flying sparks!!!
My ghetto security system is that my sub box and amps physically don't fit through the trunk opening, unless the equipment is disassembled by way of about a dozen screws that aren't visible from outside the car, or reachable without a second guy to help move the box or some time spent lying in the back seat.

i had to assemble mine in the trunk too...lol^^^
all i use to hold my box in place is a couple of L-brackets on to back of the box and that seems to work fine.
me, i'd rather have a theif pissed off and not get my stuff then to just pull it out and go on his way, this is why we have insurance. bolt it down and not with something visable. bolting them down inside the box is the best way but not something i'd do just incase you ever need to take the box out. i'd use some l-brackets, then build some cover panels that hide everything so its not obvious and visable, then get a good quality alarm with a battery backup.

holy crap why dont you just say dont play it at all, if someone wants your stuff they will get it, some people will follow you around and see where the best place you stop is and then steal it, you pay insurance for a reason, enjoy what you have and dont worry about it being stolen
as for bolting your box down, I made my box then installed it in the car and then before I put the sibs in I put two 5/8" bolts 3" long through the box and floor of the trunk and secured it that way, then installed the subs, most insurance companies wont keep you if they found out your sub box wasnt secured down, because it is then a flying object that could injure someone or even kill them

right, because you spend so much time in the spots I mentioned, you might as well not play it. Get a clue dude. You're in a busy mall blasting your @!#$, you're ASKING for it. Do you think anyone is going to think twice if they hear an alarm going off, or they're gonna stop a thief stealing your stereo? Security cant watch your @!#$ all the time. Everyone I know that had their stuff broken in to guess what, they were blasting their @!#$ at places I mentioned, including their own driveway and guess where it got broken in to, those areas. Its better to play it safe in a FEW areas than to let everyone know have something. I'd prefer to turn it down in certain areas than to deal with my @!#$ being broken in to and having to mess with insurance. And not everyone has full coverage or has audio covered.

lmao your asking for it lmao no one is ever asking for there stuff to be stolen you get a clue
maybe Im just saying that because I live in canada and we dont have as many crack heads walking around looking for car stereos to steal to sell and get more crack, and if you dont have full coverage on your audio then maybe its your own fault for getting stuff stolen, if you want to keep your audio then properly insure everything that you have, and if your worried about people stealing it then dont have a stereo
Having a car with tinted windows and nice wheels is a good way to advertise that something nice might be inside. You don't have to necessarily run around bumping to make yourself a target.
I've had my stereo stolen, it sucks ass. Canada isn't too far different than the states when it comes to theft, there's just less chance of getting shot.
Get good insurance. A good two-way remote is a great idea as well. Stealth installs help avoid attention, and it's always a good idea to pop the faceplate off your deck. Doesn't mean that someone won't steal it anyway, but it can deter alot of scumbags. When my stereo was stolen, the punks used a crowbar and side-cutters to rip/cut things out of my car (most of my double baffle went with my 12W6s). They got $2200 in equipment, and caused $1400 in damage to the car. If they want it, they'll do their best to get it even if it means destroying the rest of the car. I still bolt my box down and make things as hard to steal as possible, but it's no guaranty.
A good 2-way alarm and full coverage are your best friends.

All of this helps me alot!!!
Im gonna work on bolting my subs down tomorrow or the next day but what do i have to worry about when im drilling through the trunk of the car???
The gas tank isnt there is it?
tanks USUALLY under your rear seat. the only thing you USUALLY should have to worry about drilling through in the trunk is the spare tire. just look under the car first....you can usually get a decent mental picture from that
and as for turning down your @!#$ so it dont get stolen....FORGET THAT! insurance bills suck, but you pay them for a reason. if your not willing to pay the extra to insure your audio, then you cant possibly care about it THAT much. i realize some people cant afford the extra on their premium, but if thats the case how can you afford a 3000 dollar stereo in the first place? PRIORITIZE for christ sakes......make sure you can afford to protect it before you buy it!
and are people ACTUALLY saying you shouldnt be able to play your @!#$ at your own house? if you live in that kind of neighbourhood.....MOVE!
its really a shame that being stupid doesn't hurt more

I've known people who lived in "good" parts of town with low crime. and guess what happened in their drive way. OH MY, car broken in to. You guys do what you want, I'll stick to being more cautious. the less people that know I have something and where I park, the better.
you know what though? i dont even live in a "good" part of town, i guess some people are just smart enough to "not @!#$ where they live"
you are right, less people knowing what you have would be better....but if you're gonna be so worried about other people knowing what you got, then theres no way you'll ever really enjoy it. why install something thats designed to be loud and noticeable if your not going to use it? for that matter, how do you even install it.....after all, someone might see
ive had my @!#$ stolen before, from right out of my friends driveway....but like i said, thats what insurance is for. i was compensated nicely, and to make things even better, i found the guy that took it and got my @!#$ back that day
its really a shame that being stupid doesn't hurt more

i dont know about you but i have liability inssurance, so audio isnt covered and i cant afford to pay for full insnrance. but i definitely care about my system, so when i get to campus i turn my subs off and remove my faceplate. when i leave i put them back on. i dont worry when im home tho, i have cameras trained on my car and i live 2 minutes from the police station

a battery backup is so over looked. a theif can punch out you window pop the hood and cut the battery cable befor you can say damn. but yeah l brackets on the sub box is the way to go.

That's what I did. But it still isn't theft-resistant unless you use security fasteners to screw down the speaker - I used the type below (and also used them to bolt down my amps). It is
highly unlikely that the typical drug addicted thief is going to be carrying around the specialty hex wrenches or bits required to loosen these:
