2003 Cavalier Stereo Installation problems
Thursday, July 10, 2008 7:08 PM
So i just bought the dash kit and interface setup for my '03 Cavy coupe.
Installing with a Pioneer DEH-P690UB.
My problem is that it won't fit, tried for quite sometime, then gave up and tried stuffing it in without the wires even attached.
Still won't fit.

Is there a 1" protrude kit for the '03 cavalier, or can i cut away that plastic lip and stuff behind the stereo to make this thing fit.

Anyone who can post me a pic of how they did there's would be a great help, I wanted to have this done tonight but
was forced to abandon the project for the evening, hoping to get back at it tomorrow night after work, and hopefully
complete the install.

Thanks in advance !

I used the kit they sell at BestBuy and it works. Even though it is extremely hard to get the wires in the right spot and shove it back in if you happen to take the radio out, it works...

If you want it to flush mount, you have to. I used a Sawzall blade because I didn't have a dremel handy lol. Either way, it's a pain to get the deck to go all the way in, just keep trying. That's how it was with my Alpine.

You'll hate the mounting kit that sticks out an inch or so, I know I did. That's why I switched to the flush mount, don't regret it at all.

i had the same problem, took the roto-zip to the plastic piece, fits perfect.

stay with the flush mount you wont regret it.....you dont have to cut anything but it does make it a lot easier....i used a regular harness not the interface one and it wouldn't fit at first either....till i really TUCKED the wires away from the back and with some force it fits no problem.
I have a pioneer 4900ib with 3 rca's and aux cable and obviously harness and antena adapter and it all fits......its a major bitch to get it to fit ....really a PITA! Just tuck everything as mush as possible...

Yeah, I just picked up a p600ub tonight, and really don't look forward to putting it in. Had plenty of fun with the last deck.
This time around the plastic is going bye-bye....

i did the same.. the plastic piece in the back is in the way.. cut it out and it'll still sit as pretty as ever!

Dremeled (is that even a word) the lip off last night. deck fits much better now.
Also ran all of my wires for the amp and sub while I was at it.
and just finished putting in my front speakers a little while ago.
I will post up some pics later so you can see how it went.

Thanks for the help

All done and installed, sadly I scratched the face while putting the dash back on. Pisses me off.

Also, Scosche makes an iso mount kit that is rounded to the cavy's bezel shape, and looks even better. part # GM1583B. Metra also makes one which is what I used but I don't know the part number, we can only order scosche here at work.

Makes me wish I had ordered that one now.
I bought the GMT2049 universal that Wal-Mart had on the shelf

Now just get some Mothers plastic polish and start rubbing. Shouldn't take more than a few man hours.

Metra is 99-3301 for 2000 up (not sure of 99 down but its in the sticky). For my Alpine CVA-1003 I had to slot both sides of the cavity, cut the entire back out, and I had to use the Metra...which does stick out about 3/4 inch.

just an fyi, the Metra 99-3301 kit is the best as far as theft prevention goes becuase of the way the brackets attach. My previous head unit survive two theft attempts:

09 HHR LS, Wife's Car
05 Cavalier, Clarion DXZ375MP, Autotek MM8000.5 & 13Kv.2, wife's old car, updates coming soon

I believe that's the one I got with my stereo actually. I bought a Pioneer DEH-p3700mp off AZNCAV and he sent a very similar install kit with it. I love how it locks to the stereo
