Alright so I recognize this is probably a stupid question, but to be perfectly honest I do not know the answer.
Now my amp is wired with 4 gauge from the battery to the amp, as well as the ground. HOWEVER I do not know whether or not to wire the sub to the amp (through the box and what not) with 4 gauge wire also. Common sense tells me yes I should, but whenever I argue this with my friends they say "no you just use like 18 gauge or whatever speaker wire".
I just wanted a solid answer once and for all by people who actually know what they're talking about. Also if I'm right and you use 4 gauge in my situation, wouldn't i have trouble getting it to connect to the terminals on the sub? or do I by connectors?
thanks in advance, again sorry if this is a ridiculous question just my friends and I differ on opinions towards this.
well if i read that correct no donot use the 4 gauge to connect the subs to the amp.
and no do not use 18gauge wire. you should use 14 gauge wire that will be good for the subs.
oh ok thanks. I just presumed since your amp needs 4 gauge to get an apropriate amount of power (in my case 750watts) I assumed if you used lower gauge after the amp (i.e. to the subs) that it would kind of be a "bottle-neck" and not all the power would get to the subs.
Thanks again.
I am using 12 ga wire from amp to sub. Amp puts out 1000RMS at 2ohm to 2 alpine type R's. But 14 ga will be fine too
It all depends on how much power you are using... 750 watts, yeah, 14 guage will do ya fine.
98z24, lowered 2", aem intake, cat-back striaght pipes!, cop ligths in the front and rear, 18" liquid metal's, primer black, tint, full audio and video.
meh, i have been using 8 guage but it was already there and easier than hunting down something smaller. would've been interesting trying to run 1/0 though
honestly with as short of a run as that would be 18 ga would probably be fine, however, 14 and 12 ga is not that expensive so no reason to not spend a few extra bucks(literally like $2) on that wire.
i'm using 12 gauge though if you would like some reference
yepp me to. im using 12 gauge JL speaker wire to my subs and 16 gauge to the mids.

well we know why your name is overkill
i actually think he has 4 gauge to each of his subs.... his remote wire is 8 gauge and he has like three runs of 0 gauge power wire.
i have 10 gauge from amp to sub and im happy with it
"I did it because I wanted to see what it would look like. You should be greatful that I even told you that it would look good. If your to dumb to use photoshop and change the color of your own car then you don't need to see it changed. I'm not going to give my work away. I'll sell the pic to you though for $15."-Adam Kalin
^^JBO is about not being that guy
i got 4 ga subs to amp 0/1 for power and ground and the big three...
your fine with what you have and 14ga to the subs

any gauge wire will do.
if your pushing a heavy sub you'll want a smaller gauge to help feed the watts.
8/G is usually the best bet.and will fit most amp speaker terminals.
