don't do it. mtx is overrated.
You can save your money and invest in something you KNOW you will be happy with. for example. Fi or RE

ya i would run a RE audio SX sub........12" or 15" that will give you some serious bass and will cost less too......alot of audio companies like jl audio, rockford fosgate, mtx will over over charge because of the name. they do make some good products, i own some rockford fosgate and jbl gear myself, but if i could go back, i would of went with FI or RE audio......i like memphis also!!!

As of now I have a Fi BL 15" fully loaded. In a 4.0 cu ft box. It is stupid loud, and will cost ya less than that MTX.
check out www.ficaraudio.com
great company, and reliable

yes but like i said im willing to pay for it my question is will it last is it a good sub, and i dont KNOW i will be happy with a fi or re audio sub ive watch the mtx on youtube and it seems like a good sub. il check out the fi's and the re though.

also im not sure if i should post a new topic about this but is a 4.0 farad cap too big for the 900 watt rms amp?

the amp seems to be "cutting out" when i turn the bass knob up past half its like its not getting enough power or sumthing...?

bass knobs are evil...they're just a remote gain knob and is most likely causing your amp to clip...do yourself a favor and pull it out of your car and just use your HU's controls

yea but its so nice to not have to go thru the head unit. at driving around levels its at like 1/6th the way up and thats decently loud. and when you got to say about 2/3s the way up its stops getting louder. but that could be the crappy sub im running as well coldnt it? its a Power acoustik fubar only rated at 800 rms. but i just looked at the fi and re and i really like the look of both of them but is 24 mm of xmax enough? as in i dont want to be able to blow it or mess it up but turning it up like i did with the power acoustik...

and could some one tell me what fi or re i should get that takes the LEASt amount of trunk room and can still handle up to 1200 rms at 1 ohm and 900 rms at 2 ohm. thanks

The RE SX should handle 1200 nicely, just make sure to get the dual 2 ohm version. For FI the Q or BL will do nicely. And yes, 24mm of xmax should be plenty excursion for a 12.

Here's the thing about a bass knob...you are messing with the gains, which WILL distort the signal. Bass knobs pop subs. Just tune your amp correctly to begin with and just use the HU...this will most likely improve your subs life span, and when you're dropping $250+ on a sub, you want it to last you a while.

ok so if i get the bl which im damn near sold on (watching on youtube) what should i get with it cause you can customize it?

and with the bass know if i turn it up slowly then would it makes things better then just popin it up (you know?) and i really dont want to get rid of the bass knob because its so nice and i allready drilled it into my dash....lol. but what kind of wear are you talking about would it be the same as doing it thru the radio? and also isnt it beter for the amp to be running at a lower db when ur not useing it?

Alright if you want the Fi BL, it is made to get loud.
The Q is more musical, but I personally like the BL, it gets CRAZY.
I've got a 15" Fi BL (fully loaded), which means, cooling, flatwind coil, universal, and i've got it at dual 2 ohm, so i can wire it to 1 ohm parallel. Any questions just ask me.
I'm going to be running a Sundown 1500d, which is rated at 3000 max. You will need 1/0 gauge and most likely a battery upgrade.
There is no other place to purchase a Fi sub, they are handmade when you order them, no backstock ever. I've got a 4.0cu ft box, with 54 sq in. of port and a 29" long port, i can take a pic when i get time.
As of now I only have it on a Lanzar amp, that is 2 ohm stable so I had to run it 4 ohm, and pushing less that 500 watts, but this is tearing my car up already. I will get a video and some pictures for you. To tell you how crazy it is, it is moving my exhaust and gas tank(great)....has some great window flex too. I'd honestly purchase the Fi BL

so i should get it "fully loaded" and could some one help me get some box dimensions. it says 2.2 cubes for a ported box but i have no clue how to calculate the port? if some one can help me figure out the port i can design it from there(solidworks 07 huge help) but I am in need of some assistance. and thanks for all the info and it seems like a great sub!! (i could care less about sq im all about tearing the car apart!)

I didn't mention any wear on the sub, I said it would most likely increase the life span of the sub by not using it. This is mainly due to not exceeding the thermal capabilities of the voice coil or the mechanical excursion limits of the sub. You can safely use a bass knob, but you need to tune your whole system with it at a preset level (when I've put them in I usually set them at half and tell the customer to NEVER turn it above that point, and I use some nail polish to mark the setting).

The HU's controls mess with the voltage output, and if it's a good deck, it won't distort the signal...the bass knob like I said is a gain control; this can drive the amp to clip without putting it into clip protection (if it has one). And yes, running your amp and sub with less power when it's not needed is generally a good thing. Just set the knob at a level, then tune your whole system around that level and be careful. When used correctly they are just fine, but unfortunately they are usually used incorrectly, and then the owner thinks that they have a @!#$ty amp when it's just user error.

As far as the extras on the sub...if you can afford it, get everything, especially since you're going for spl.

I'd help you out on the port but without knowing the parameters of the sub, I can't really give you anything good. When you get the sub, hopefully the birth sheet will have all the info on it. Otherwise honestly just call up Fi and ask them for some port dimensions...they should be able to help you out no problem. Ask them for dimensions for both a round and a slot port. All you need is the port area and the length...and don't forget that if the port takes a corner that the length is calculated off the centerline of the port all the way to it's opening.

gettting ahold of Fi can be a issue. if you are going to try to get ahold of them, there is no phone number. But a good email instead of emailing them directly is: nick@ficaraudio.com

here is a video of my setup, but keep in mind i only have it on 450w max:

Fi BL in Cavalier

Here are the pictures I am to get to you:

If you need the complete dimensions I am sure I can get them to you from my builder.

what do you mean by "builder" and im going to get the 12" version of this and im hoping the box is much smaller than that. lol. but could you ask your builder what size port should i do for the 12" again the box needs to be 2.2 cubes.

thanks

well i'll lead you in the right direction but i can't do all this for ya .
Go to the SSA Forums.
www.soundsolutionsaudio.com
post a topic in the Fi Products Forum, and you should have a few people help ya out there, some of them might even design a box for ya.
