I have a PIONEER head unit (4yrs old), I just replaced the stock door speakers with INFINITY and upgraded the 6x9 to PIONEER.
My sound was crappy, so that is why I changed the speakers. Well it still is. How important is SPEAKER WIRE, I am just using stock wiring. Also, would you think the head unit is dying too? The Bass, breaks up under minimum load and there is no clarity

to answer the question of speaker wire, if you simply replaced the coaxials and are not amping them, stock wiring is perfectly fine. that is now where your issue is.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

yep yep. chances are that your feeding your new speakers stock radio power and its breaking up at mid volume trying to play all the frequencies. get the bass out of those speakers, if you want to make a big improvement get a dedicated amp for your speakers.

when I replaced my door speakers I used Plenty of Dynamat eXtreme on the door and also went from a 4x6 to a 6.5" up front. Big difference. Even better once I added the amplifier.
