Well, the audio install went good this weekend except my front speakers. it seems that they are too deep to mount in the door. so i need suggestions on what to do. i need to find a way to mount them and still be able to use my window cranks. anyone with suggestions would be be a life saver. they are the only thing i have not done now.
1" spacers maybe??? also. some have spaced the lower window channel back a bit also
how do u move the channel back.....i would need about 1 3/4 inches worth of spacers from what it looks like....the mounting depth is 2.7ish inches, from the back side of the mounting area. they can be mounted either drop in, or flush style. but if i do it drop in style, then the back of the speaker will hit the window and the front will be too far out to be able to put the door panel back....

easiest way is to use a spacer... maybe some pics will help?? I have a set of 6.5 comps in my cav and i only needed less then half inch of space to get mines to fit with the spacer.... what kind of speakers are they?? You could buy the 4x6 to 6.5 adapter from ebay...
they are the diamond audio d661 component setup...the speaker has a mounting depth of 2.7 inches....
I have a 4 door fire so the door panel on my car is obviously different. I had a 1/4" spacer but still had to cut a hole in my door panel and mount speaker grills over the hole so they weren't bottoming out on the panel.
Considering the size of those speakers, moving the window channel might not be enough, you'll probably still have to use a spacer and cut a hole big enough so the speakers don't bottom out on the door panel. Try moving the track first bofore you start cutting.

what is involved in moving the track? its is bolts or rivets or what? i guess ill have to tear it apart and look. i think even with a 1.5 inch spacer, i still need like .25 inches or so of room. ill have to double check.
Wish I knew what was involved in moving the tracks. I've personally never had to move them so I never cared to look at it. Taking a look is porbably your best bet, cross your fingers their not rivetts.

the track is just a bolt. just put some washers in there untill it clears. BUT. a 1" spacer should work just fine. i have Alpine Type S components with a 2.5 inch mounting depth on a 3/4" spacer and i still have room to spare. i would try the one inch spacer first. and IF you have to space the track. make damn sure that the window doesnt bind up when it goes down.
but guys rememeber the difference in the sunfire door panels and the cavalier door panels....i have not looked, but with the tweeter setup that is on mine, it might be the reason....does anyone have any pics of a 2004 sunfire door panel...i think that the speaker pod housing on mine is NOT stock...

what speakers do you have?????
I have some JL VR 6.5's in my doors, I used a 1" spacer and they fit behind the panel fine.

The JL's are a good .25 inch smaller then the diamonds. i seriously thinks it is just a sunfire thing....how can i measure the room i have from window to door without having the door on????

Scrolled right passed it. Thanks.
If you have a speaker pod there alerady couldn't you remove that and then be able to get in there and do measurements or is that attached to the door panel with no way of removing it?

Yup, the VRs are only 2.44" of depth. hmmm. So you do not have enough room behind the door panel to place a deep enough spacer behind the speaker??
the "pod" is attached to the door panel, but can still be removed. behind the pod however is a plastic mesh that is in the way... i have to take my driver4s side panel off tomorrow anyways, so ill snap a few pics and post em so everyone know what i am talking about
Still working on the front door things, but i got my sub box cut and made to the right size now, and made a new spare tire well cover as well, all in all today was a good car work day. i will update more about the door speakers as soon as i try to tackle them...
