allright....
I want to build my own tower speakers. i just bought a home theater (sony package thingy
Sony Link)
so i want to build the towers instead of buying them. in my opinion i could get some really good sounding towers for under 100$. the problem is finding the correct speakers and such. the suround sound is set at 3 ohms for the center, front, rear speakers and 1.5 ohms for the sub. i would like to keep it this way but i cant find any good little components that will wire all together to 3 ohms. so if any one knows where i can get some good speakers and crossovers that will wire down to 3 ohms or any advice at all about building the towers, i would like to hear that. and i am also looking to upgrade the subwoofer as well but for now this sub is good enough. i just want to find some decent speakers for towers that handle around 50-100 rms under a 3 ohm or 6 ohm load.
thanks.

use the speakers that come with the setup. for $100 you wont be able to even match the quality of them.

i can get some klipsch 5.25 woofers for 20$ shipped to my door each as well as 4 4.25" boston acoustic woofers shipped to me for 45$, in my opinion those should be better quality than the sony but im not sure. but those are all 4 ohms i just hooked up some @!#$ty lg 6.5 inch woofer at 4 ohms free air and that thing didnt sound too bad, and this was hooked up to the woofer out. however the sony woofer that cam with ti sounded much better (probly cause its in a box) i also tried out a 15 inch realisic woofer from a mach one speaker system at 8 ohms (this thing is older than me) and it really improved the bass, the whole apartment was shaking (i quickly turned it down after i noticed) but i guess another question is what ohms would i be looking at f i hooked a 1.5 ohm woofr and 2 8 ohm woofers together? would this just not be good what so ever?

you clearly know nothing about car or home audio. car audio speakers are designed differently and shouldnt be used for HT purposes. just use the speakers it came with like mentioned above.
no ^^^^ i know this they are not car audio speakers i am talking about. and i dont see what is wrong with building some towers to hook up. i guess my main question would be is it ok to run 4 ohms instead of 3 ohms on this unit im not sure any one on this forum can answer that but it cant hurt to try...

ok i know that amplifiers can handle different ohms. in my impression if it says at 3 ohms then it can go as low as 3 ohms. but im not sure, thats what im asking. please i just want an answer. and im trying to get it wired the same load as the stock speakers that came with it. i dont see the problem in upgrading what you already have. its like a front bumper on a car itll fit better than an aftermarket one but people still replace it.

so what you're saying is, that you think, for <$100 you can come up with a better speaker setup than that which sony sunk (probably) several thousands of dollars of r&d on? its a basic HTIAB. the speakers were produced to work with the amp/reciever. dont like them? buy real quality gear, something from a company like onkyo or denon, and THEN buy separate speakers.

your probably right, but i dont see why i cant try? its going to be a learning experience, you see im going to school for product design so this is kinda my job to think up ideas do research ask questions create prototypes and so on. i want to get into small electronics and things of this nature possible some sort of speaker cabinet design who knows. i dont hurt to try, im just asking can i do it?
and thanks for your input. i think im going to get some boston acoustics and some tweeters and see if i cant come up with some thing decent. and its gunna cost around 120$ for 2 towers.

if you're into doing this then i suggest you research a little and ask around that forum - they know there stuff and wont steer you wrong. gave me LOTS of advice on building a set for home theatre (which I never had the chance to finish - long story). You will learn everything from building the cabinets to wiring up some sweet crossovers to match what you want. A lot of it is trial and error if ya dont know what your doing... take the mistakes of others and create something better than they could have
