Possible Repair on Old Subs?
Tuesday, March 17, 2009 1:33 PM
I have 4 subs in my attic. My two 10" Audiobahns. I know blah blah Audiobahn is crap, but Im looking for a little sub to put in when I go to college (Dont want my good stuff getting jacked) Now theres nothing visibly wrong with the subs. The surround is solid the tinsel leads are connected. It just doesnt make any sound when hooked to an amp. No rattles or anything. The amp doesnt go into protection. So my thinking is that a free sub fixed cheaply > new sub that costs lots o money just for a little bump. Also I have two older RF Punch subs RFZ1812 I think. Theyre the same way. Free. Hooked both up. One worked then died. So any help or suggestions would be helpful. Its not big deal if theyre all dead and helpless. just trying to save a little money and learn something new.

Probably have a short or open circuit in the voicecoil, in other words its dead as a doornail. Or it could be worse and the inner magnet might have shifted locking it up, but thats pretty rare I imagine.

I don't think Audiobahn does recones. Neither does RF for the entry level sub.

I threw them out for trash day. Some guy took them and came back an hour later and tried to sell me them.

So theyre gone.

Edit: I was starting to think it was probably a short on VC as I read around. They didnt smell god awful like my Kenwoods did when I burnt them so they werent overheating.
