I'm looking to get some new subs to drop into the cav. I want something that is cleaner, harder, louder, and just generally better...in that order. I currently have two 10" Type-R's run off an Elemental Designs nINE.1 at 1 ohm in a 4 cu ft ported box tuned to about 33hz. I'm thinking about sealing the trunk off, glassing the rear deck, and putting the subs where the trunk opening was with the box extending into the trunk.
Here's my dilemma, I'm thinking about many different subs that should match my criteria. Unfortunately, I've never heard any of them in person or had any experience with them. So, here's the list I'm currently contemplating:
(2) Elemental Designs e5.12's
(2) Elemental Designs 13Av.2's
(2) JL 12W6v2's
(2) JL 13W6v2's
(2) Fi BL12's
I will have a second battery in the trunk (haven't decided whether or not to use an isolator yet), either a Kinetic 1800 or a big Yellowtop. I don't know what any of these subs can do, and whether or not I could possibly get away with just one of them or what. Btw, I will have two sets of CDT CL-62CF's glassed into the door panels with a pair of image tweets glassed into the a-pillars.
I would specifically like help from the veterans of this forum, especially JL since I know you've had some experience with ED products. Also, I've been modeling these for a while now in WinISD Pro and could probably use a little help with the final box size and tuning once I've narrowed the list.

eD is junk stay away. and if you do get some subs from them make sure to make a new post when they fail so i can laugh.
Really Stephen? I ran a 13Kv.2 for years without a single issue... I will admit that back in the day they DID have some quality control and customer care issues, but they have cleaned up significantly. Sounds like you lurk DIYMA and CA.com a lot and just hear the older DIY'ers who still badmouth eD simply because everyone else on the forums do, or because a friend of a friend heard on a forum that someones cousin had a bad experience 3 years ago.
eD's amps are solid, put out rated power, and are not over rated. Their prices on them right now are great too. All in all, I don't really have a bad thing to say about their amps or subs. Could similar products be had for the same or similar prices elsewhere? Yeah, but I really don't see a reason to dog on the company as a whole. I am willing to bet you(Stephen) are just another guy saying they suck because you read it on a forum. I am also willing to wager it was DIYMA or CA or CAF.
ANYWAY, with those options, and the experience I have had with a couple subs on your list, I would have to go with the W6. Pricey, and everyone is going to cry and whine and tell you to never buy JL because of the price, but the quality, sound, and reputation are worth it to me. They make amazing sounding speakers, rock solid amps, and even nice enclosures for their products. If you have the money, and those listed are your options, try to check out some W6v2's.
On a more budget minded JL suggestion, have you thought about a W3v2 or W3v3? The W3 line has continuously impressed me for the price. I put the W3 as their absolute best value in my book. They sound amazing, don't need gobs of power to sound good and get loud enough for the every day driver or SQ guy who want's to crank it once in a while, and at $150ish, the price is not over the top like all the bandwagon JL price haters think.

a local j-body member here has 2 13w6's with 2 alpine amps putting about 900 each sub in a ported box and it hammers...the awesome thing about them is with that kind of power it looks like they are barely moving...def can take a beating

i say go with 2 12" bl's and a 2000 saz from sundown.

really, i had 3 13kv.3 1 the dust cap came unglued on so i had to take all them out and sold the other 2. shipped it back to ed got destoryed so i bought 2 19.ov.2. built the box put the subs in played a 50 hz tone then the surround came unglued on one. I called and alex said "thats the first one we ever had come back with that type of failure" which i find hard to believe since both of my issues are with the glue they use. Then when i sent the sub back it was signed for, and i kept asking when i was going to get my new sub. alex told me that they have not recived it. so after about 6 weeks of that they "found" it in the warehouse and asked me to pay 1/2 shipping back. Awesome customer service let me tell you
awesome quality, even better customer service
those are my pics my @!#$ty equipment and i made my own opinions, i don't need anyone else's help.
thanks for talking out your ass, jackass

I dont understand why youre still suggesting Sundown when you bought a Rockford amp. I personally wouldnt suggest something I dont own or have heard but thats just me I guess.
Either way my Sundown is nice but little on the expensive side. I assume youre getting more amp also? Because a 1k amp wont push two Fi BL's to any level of satisfaction.
btw Stephen, it wasn't talking out my ass, it was speaking from experience bud.

Alright, so I took a look at the 13W3v3's and on WinISD they'll perform just as well as a pair of 13W6's with the same amount of power, even barely a little better. Now here's my question, how do the W3's sound compared to the W6's.
Also, I'd really like to have a comparison of the Fi vs W3 vs W6 if anyone has had experience with all three, as these are the three that I'm really liking atm.
Thanks for the input so far. And I should also throw in that Alex gives excellent customer service, and has been great with the multiple times I've dealt with him so far.

i would have bought the saz-2000 but the rockford was a deal i couldnt pass up. there is no way in hell i would have bought it brand new.
with the saz-2000 it has more features and more power for a lesser price than a rockford.

Obviously a company like JL isn't going to up the price on something for no reason. A W6 is simply going to be a better woofer. WinISD isn't going to tell you everything about how a woofer will sound or perform. Like most things, it isn't the same on paper as it is in real life all the time.
As for performance for the price, the W3's are amazing. The W6 is a better woofer definitely, it can just be argued that the performance difference doesn't exactly match the price difference.

Go with some Memphis Mojo's 2- 12's would slam if you can get a solid cv box built and braced. your can run a 1000d to each of them easy. If in fact you happen to blow one, you can just swap out the cartridge for about a 1/3 of the price after the 2 yr warranty expires
He is asking about higher end sound quality subs like W6's and you suggest Memphis Mojo's? ick ick ick. Come on Crystal, just ick! It doesn't sound to me like he is looking for a sub that is just going to get stupid loud.

Well, JL, I'd love to hit 140
...but also have a clean sounding system. Hence the reason I'm looking at high end, higher power subs.
To answer Sundown's earlier question that I missed somehow: my current amp is running 1350+ watts at 13.6v. If I get two Bl's I'll buy different amp or second one, but if I go with the 13W6's or 13W3's I'll just keep the one amp.
Also, any other options you guys could recommend that I'm missing? I'm mainly trying to figure out how much I need to save up right now.

If you can afford a pair of 13W6's, I would definitely do it... And make the install pretty to go along with a sexy and great sounding woofer

Well I've talked to some buddies that have experience with JL products, and they pretty much agreed. W6's are what I'll probably end up getting. Now to finish the box specs, and then to figure out home I'm gonna make it
I think 6-7 cu ft is the most I can squeeze out of my trunk with a wall, so now it's just down to playing around. I gotta get my front stage figured out now, too. Time for a new thread.
Thanks again for your help guys.

Why would you need 6-7 cu. ft. for the 13W6v2's? They require less than 2cu ft each in a ported enclosure. I would not recommend building a box too big for the subs

I'm not saying I need 6-7 cu ft, just that that's what i have to play with, and actually, I have more like 7-8 cu ft if I really needed it, if not more.
I'll look at the ID Q's too, I already looked at the SSD's but decided they wouldn't suit my needs.

If you are shopping for W6v2's, I would surpass the IDQ as the IDMAX might be a lot more to your liking.

Sndsgood: What size and tuning is your box? Also, do you have a wall? Do you have a photo gallery online of your stuff?
I just threw the iDQ 12 and the iDMAX 12 into WinISD, and both seem a viable choice. How does the iDQ compare as far as SQ vs the W6? Price difference between the two is $350 lol.

Sorry, $175 difference, I was looking at the iDQ v2's, not the v3's.
