2-way alarm q's
Friday, April 17, 2009 6:52 PM
I'm in need of a quality, long-range, 2-way alarm system with capability for a glass break sensor. Battery backup is not necessary, but would be nice.... Module needs to be able to support multiple sirens (3 min).

Price is not an issue.

Any recommendations?

Able to support 3 sirens? Technically any alarm could do that - just wire it in with a relay.

I'm not doing the install, it'll be far too complex for what I can do (ten 115 db piezos scattered throughout the interior... maybe more depending how sadistic I feel... and a 140 db 6-tone siren also interior mounted). Having multiple siren outputs lessens the complication factor.

I prefer my method... no siren, no light flash... it just pages me. Then the thief does the screaming when I show up!

What if your out of range though? My alarm is absolutely obnoxious, and I love it that way.

I'm never more than 2 miles away from my car... but if I am, it's safely in the garage at home

Or in my case... they were in, grabbed my in-dash monitor (that was all they got) and gone in ~60 seconds (store vid cameras take 10 seconds of vid every 1 minute in the area I was parked)... have to get a "pre-owned" door window tomorrow

I'm boycotting that store and left all the glass in the parking lot, but I rewired the monitor to no longer work if removed from the vehicle (moved some circuitry around that is still under the dash pad)... if they manage to fix that, the temp overload circuit is also removed... will still work with out it, but will release the magic smoke....

Seriously though... just the one recommendation? Forget the rest of the prereq's.... just quality, long range and 2-way... I'll have a shop work on the rest of it.

I've always liked Compustar alarms... but that's just me. Lots of range, works on a 5 speed, yadda yadda...

only thing i dont like about compustar and most alarms for that matter that are 2 way are how cheap and chinsy the remotes look. the viper ones just have a generic car where as most other alarms have a porsche. vette. or some other goofy car. good thing i like about the alarm i posted is the rechargeable remote.

I just got done putting an alarm into my 5-speed. I'll never do it again. However, looking back on it I wish I would have shopped around a little bit more for the alarm itself... it functions great and everything but like Wojo already said... the 2way remote is pretty cheesy looking... but it does it's job.
