radio wiring help

I'll go ahead and say...I'm a dumbass. There it's out of the way. I cut the wiring harness off before I was aware of the handy dandy harnesses from metro. It has been years (almost 20yrs) since I have changed out a car stereo.

I am trying to wire up a kenwood cd player in my 03 Cavalier. I have found the wiring diagrams for the car however there are a few wires I'm not sure about. I have all the speakers hooked up. The small gray wire (dimmer control), small black wire (larger black wire should be the ground?) , and the purple wire I am not sure about. I have power to the unit, but nothing lights up. I can put in a CD and it takes it, but it will not play.

So, here are my questions:

Where do the small gray and black wires go?
Where does the purple wire go?

I think everything else is hooked up correctly.

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Radio 12v
orange
+
radio harness

Radio Ground black - radio harness
Radio Ignition (Class 2 Serial Data)
Radio Illumination gray (dimmer) + radio harness
Factory Amp Turn-on pink + radio harness or amplifier
Power Antenna N/A
LF Speaker +/- tan - gray +,- radio harness
RF Speaker +/- lt. green - dk. green +,- radio harness
LR Speaker +/- brown - yellow +,- radio harness
RR Speaker +/- dk. blue - lt. blue +,- radio harness

Your car may do 13 sec @ 103 mph, but my car does 146db @ 35 hz.

That was what I was going off of. I have the speaker wires correct. Don't have the pink. Black to black. Orange to the power which is yellow on the stereo harness. Then I have the gray one and a thin black wire coming from the car. The only wire remaining on the harness is a red one (ignition).

The diagram for the harness is as follows

Ignition wire (red)

Battery wire (orange)

Ground wire (black)

all others are for the speakers

there are three other wires that are not used. one for power antenna, telephone mute?, and one that is labeled "not used"
