pass lock questions
Saturday, December 05, 2009 2:45 PM
So my friend just bought a 96 cav race car (dirt track) that is half built. The guy that started building it could not keep it running for more than a few seconds (pass lock). So my friend picked this up for a song. I have rewired my race car w/ push button start with out any problem, its a 95 so no pass lock. I bought the Two factory service manuals for a 96 cav/fire hoping to be able to figure out a way to bypass the pass lock and just install a simple push button and toggle switches.

I read through the manuals about the pass lock and it says it shuts down the injectors, I was hoping for the fuel pump but seam that's not so. Well I'm going to his garage tomorrow morning to try to help him sort this out. If any one knows how to rewire this please help!!
A little more info...The guy he bought this from gutted the car and "cut out" the dash and all wiring, NO INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, not even a plug just cut wires. We tried the whole turn the key ahead for 10 minutes and start didn't work. Also tried the start car and unplug the pass lock harness at the column didn't work either!

I'm not afraid to get involved w/ some heavy rewiring so if any one know hows to do this please help. Thanks

I do believe that the passlock on the pre 99 is part of the cluster and after 99 its part of the key switch .... I don't think you have a chance without a cluster in the car.... Back when I swapped clusters in my 99 I had to do the Passlock relearn . .. GOOD LUCK........

well I am going there now, I'm going to see if the pass lock wires are at the BCM. If they are then I will try to install my own resister there and try a relearn? I'll let ya know

Close... but not quite. 96-99 it's in the cluster, 00-05 it's the BCM. A 96 car won't even have come with a BCM, so don't go looking for one.

You could swap a 95 PCM and engine harness in there... making it a 95, so no Passlock. Or get a 96 dash harness and cluster to make it work, then use a bypass module to delete the cluster later on.

just got back....Right you are! Still no go, found a 96 donor car. Took the cluster out of that but could not get it to program? Can we just get a 95 PCM and plug it in, I see you said you need the harness...dont forget this is a race car. Also will a pre 95 PCM work? Thanks guys
