145 DB @ 30 hz!
Sunday, January 24, 2010 2:02 PM
So I went to the World of Wheels show this weekend at Pittsburgh. One of the local car clubs was repin in full force, their main show vehicle was a 2002 ford expedition. Long story short. The expedition had 6 12" RE audio subs ( not sure which model) in a fiberglassed box along with a whole slew of other stuff. I got to talkin with the owner and he said they got it metered once and it hit 145 @ 30 hz! Now correct me if I'm wrong but 145 isn't all that impressive, but at 30 hz? Dayyymmmn

That is very impressive.

Your car may do 13 sec @ 103 mph, but my car does 146db @ 35 hz.

Ok now I can see how you got on everyone elses bad side Anton. On another note, I was thinkin that was impressive when ithe owner told me. I hear of people hittin 140 s all day ranging from 34 up to mid 40s but rarely anything below that , especially around here, which isn't a basshrad hot spot

its not like i said thats a horrible score (which it isnt 145 at 30 hz would be nuts!) , im just pointing out that its been done before and posted a better one.

Ive sat in a truck that did 156 at 32 hz. That was nasty.

145 dB is a respectable score for a daily system. I bet that thing ground pounds something nasty.

Oh I thought you finally got your amp and got meter when I read the title, Brent.

Hell no man! I'm still fighting with dealer cost to get my money back. I am gonna get it metered once I get an amp but I don't think imma be in the 140s. Any rough idea as to what I could expect sundown?

Id hope youd be in the 140s Hahaha. But idk Im no expert and its hard to say just off of the top of my head what you can do since theres so much that goes into metering well.

you should easily be in the 140's.

Well a buddy of mine did hit 147 DB on a single ascendant audio 18 with a 2k watt diablo audio amp. I'm running a BTL 15 and imma push it with a kicker zx2500.1 amp . So I guess now that I think about it its quite possible. I never even imagined I'd be possibly pushing into the 140s. Kinda anxious to see what two 15 BTLs on 5-6k watts will do

well if one with 2500 watts gets you 140 then two with 2500 watts will get you around 146 in theory.

So your saying its only rougly a 6 db bump? Wow I knew it was exponential but damn

i read somwhere that doubling power gets you a 3 db bump and doubling cone area gets you a 3 db bump. but not sure how accurate.

Its not exponential its actually the opposite.

I had a guy tell me at a show that is an increase in acoustic energy that causes a 3 db increase. So it would take a double in power and double in cone area for 3 dB. But I may have misunderstood him.

Makes it easier to appreciate the insanity behind hitting 170 lmao

1 sub 100 watts 130db (just for refrence here)
2 subs 100 watts 133 db
2 subs 200 watts 136 db
4 subs 200 watts 139db
4 subs 400 watts 142db
8 subs 400 watts 145db
8 subs 800 watts 148db
16 subs 800 watts 151db
16 subs 1600 watts 153db
32 subs 1600 watts 153db
32 subs 3200 watts 156

4 subs 400 watts 142
4 subs 800 watts 145
4 subs 1600 watts 148
4 subs 3200 watts 151
4 subs 6400 watts 153
4 subs 12,800 watts 156

you can see how quickly it starts getting out of hand. and also realise this would be in a perfect envirement, reality is that once you start adding more your not going to get that 3db you may be only gain 2 or 1 because allot of other things can come into play. you can also see with subs why most people try to run more power versus doubling your cone area. but again this is just a general rule and really only works at the lower power levels. the law of diminishg returns. the first hundred db's can be bough for a few hundred dollars. the next 50 db's will cost you several thousand dollars.

So one could only imagine what 100k watts would do! I always thought it would be cool to load a trailer to the brim with amps subs and batteries. Run like 300k watts and just completely rape everything lol. I know some of you guys will tell me how its impossible to build an electrical system to handle that but it would still be cool to do it

think about the fact that going from 100k watts to 300k watts would only gain you around 4db lol
