I got bored after school and decided to finally tackle this since Ive been wanting to since I got the new sub and axed the rear speakers.
Took some 3/4 MDF and cut to shape. I wanted to screw them down but I could fit the dril in the area between the window and deck so I just used a lot of double stick body molding tape. The 3M stuff. Theyre holding just fine for now but Im going to figure out some epoxy or something to set them solid.
And on to the pictures:
Passenger Side
Driver Side
And I blocked off the hole in the back too.
I just did the big holes and the little ones will get done if I ever get to putting in sound deadener.
Did you try drilling from the bottom upwards? What about mounting them under the rear deck?
I considered that but then Im not sure how I could get the holes where I need them exactly and Id have the pull the sub box.
Those things are neat.
I just got back from a 30 minutes cruise and the plates knock down the flex in the deck lid quite a bit. Theres still a little bit but its not slapping against the window which is a plus.
lol, i had the same issue, duct tape works great!!! put some good glue under it and tape it down, or you could pull the box like stated before...

Eff that noise. Im waaaaaaaaaaay too lazy tp pull the box. I have faith in my double sided tape for now.
Im kinda curious if the block offs would help on the meter at all.

hard to tell, firing out of the trunk it blocks some air holes for the sound to get through, but then again it could help guid the waves into the cabin. its a toss up. ill lose the .2 db or w/e for the sake of not hearing my damn rear deck flopping around. lol

Haha. I kinda thought it might knock down some destructive waves coming through the deck. I still havent gotten metered so I cant make a judgement either way I guess.
Yup. The openings are 90º from each other. Generally a bad thing.
Kinda what I figured. Im happy with how they turned out since I have tard hands and cant make stuff look nice have the time.

you could just use the existing holes that the speaker mounted with.. but then you run into the having to move the box... long run i'd say it would be better from keeping it coming loose. also i'd dynamat the rest of that, looks like a good start to the deck seal.

You do realize that the 6x9s are mounted to plastic pieces that clip into the deck lid? So no existing holes.
I think I blew one out today so Im going to go about getting some type of adhesive in the next few days.
I have been wanting to do some FG lately. Maybe Ill just glass the entire bastard.
If I were you I'd lay down masking tape with mold release. Gob some duraglass where you're going to put the blocker plates, then put the plates in and screw them down once or twice.
BAM airtight.. except for all the other holes.
Keep in mind I eat Duraglass for breakfast.
fiber glassing in the car will get very very smelly. so be warned. i would start on a weekend and leave the doors open with fans all weekend and maybe, just maybe the smell will be gone. lol.

Fiberglass fumes should be a point of pride
i def need to do that soon HATE the flopping of the rear deck against the window Grr
it looks good tho i wonder if you screw the rear deck to those blocks (after they are secured tight) if it would stop it flopping even more?
If I were you. (Did I say that already)
I'd go pick up some of the clips that hold the rear deck in from a wrecker (the round push-clips). Measure the rear deck and drill some holes in the wood blocks, then put the push pins in those holes to hold the deck in place.
I just made a DYNAMAT eXtreme Sandwich. One layer on top, one on bottom. Works greats, looks even better,
