For some reason unknown to me, my left rear speaker does not work. Zero sound when you adjust the stock stereo to that speaker only. I checked to see if the wires were attached to the speakers and they look fine but what else could it be? Also, I have been told it is pointless for me to upgrade my speakers unless I upgrade the head unit/stereo too. any help or advice? new to cars and their audio
Well could be a dead speaker,Or could be a bad channle out of the deck,I am going to go with a bad speaker..
And go ahead and upgrade your speakers with your stock deck,no harm in that..
whoever said replacing the speakers is useless, is an idiot. Sure a new head unit would make things a ton better, but better speakers will still be a big upgrade from stock.

Check the speaker with a multimeter, set it to ohms. I wanna say stock is 10 ohm. If it reads more or less, you have a dead speaker.
Your car may do 13 sec @ 103 mph, but my car does 146db @ 35 hz.
Ok I have a pretty good digital multimeter, but how do I go about checking the speaker? Do I need to remove anything for this? Like I said earlier, I am a noob at this!
Just switch the meter to the ohms setting, if it has it in incriments, set it to th 20 ohm setting, then hook it up to each speaker lead of the speaker.

Here is a real easy way to tell if the speaker is not working...
1-Get a 9volt battery
2-strip and hook up 2 wires to the top of the battery,As per positive and negative,And take some electrical tape and wrap it around the battery so the wires stay in place..Or solder to the battery top if you wish.
3-Disconnect your non working speaker,And then take leads from your 9 volt battery and try to get the speaker to pop,or move..If no move meant from the driver or poping noise,it is safe to say the speakers is ,NFG..
Now with your new found speaker popping tool you can use it to also to help you locate speakers in the car,and if you don't know your wire colors and you can see the speaker, just pop from you wiring harness and see if the speaker moves out,If so the speaker will be in phase..And if you cant see the speaker find a buddy to watch the speaker for you..By being in phase this will give you the nice sound you are looking for which is very important..Enjoy.
Ya know, I like this new guy giving advice more and more. I have yet to disagree with him!

Well I don't have the time to try the 9v battery thing right now, but I did get the multimeter and tested the ohms. It's kinda hard to hold the needle things up there while looking at the multimeter but I think the reading was around 14-15 and once even looked like 35 came up? Might be just me haha but I know I didn't see 10 there. Safe to say it is gone?
Thanks Dustin,I hope to keep up the good info.
Ok when testing your speaker make sure you remove the speaker from the door and have the speaker cone facing up and then test your speaker..
You can also use a AA battery if you dont have a 9 volt one,This is the best way to see what it is doing,no poping or movement it is a dead speaker..
Set your multimeter to AC voltage and plug it in there too, see if you're getting a signal back to the speakers. It should flucuate.
Your car may do 13 sec @ 103 mph, but my car does 146db @ 35 hz.
Alright guys thanks for the help, I tried the battery thing and checked with a mulitmeter. It was completey dead, and now I have 2 pioneer's out back. They are 6x9 a-series. Are the front doors 4x6? I will replace them with pioneer's too next weekend.
if u are simply replacing the stock speakers with stock size speakers, yes. The fronts are 4X6
